Mangalore: Special coach for Central Armed Police Force chugs off

Mangalore, May 20: Dr K Jayanth Murali, IGP, south sector CISF flagged off a special coach for Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and the paramilitary forces at Mangalore Central Railway Station here on Monday May 20.

The flagging-off ceremony was followed by breaking of coconut and cutting the ribbon by the chief guest.

Speaking after flagging off the coach, Dr Jayanth Murali said that the special coach has been flagged off for the benefit of the paramilitary forces.

"At present, there are two trains from the south sector - Mangalore-Jammu Tawi Navyug Express (train no 16687) every Monday at 5:15 pm, and Chennai-Jammu Tawi Andaman Express (train no 12687), every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday," he said.

"There are nearly 64 seats in this 3-tier AC coach, reserved for the Central Armed Police Force (paramilitary force), out of which 16 seats are for CISF, 24 for BSF and others for CRPF, ITBP, NSG, SSB and Assam Rifles. In Mangalore there are a high number of personnel in MRPL-ONGC, NMPT, Airport and other places.

"The CAPF has to pay a total sum of Rs 1.56 crore every year to the Central Railway for availing this service from them. This is just the beginning, more number of trains will be deployed in the coming days. CASP personnel, their families and retired CASP personnel too can avail these services. They need to contact the nodal officer to book their tickets," he said.

On the occasion, paramilitary personnel Pradeep Kumar, Vinod Maruti, his family members Jagath Vinod and Anitha Vinod and security personnel Dharmaiah, his family and CASP coach security personnel who went on this first train were garlanded and greeted with tilak by Dr K Jayanth Murali.

Dr Anil Pandey, BSF senior commandant, M L Meena, deputy commandant, P K Sivadasan, station manager, Shanker Murthy, senior DM Railways and others were present on the occasion. The programme was compered by V S Thakur.
