Bangalore: No saffronization of text books - Education minister

Daijiworld Media Netowrk – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, May 21: Primary and secondary education minister, Kimmane Ratnakar, after assuming charge of his department, stressed that during his tenure as minister, he will take steps to stop saffronization of text books, and address the issue of shortage of text books.

He also said his other priority will be to set right wrongs which had been committed by the department in the past.

Speaking to press persons here on Monday May 20, Ratnakar said that the department of education happens to be one of the most important portfolios, and that he would to try to rejuvenate the department. He added he proposes to govern the department, duly taking the senior officials of the department into confidence.

“Social commitment will be kept in mind while preparing text books henceforth. Towards this end, I propose to seek advice from scholars and thinkers, and take a proper decision after holding detailed discussions with the chief minister,” he explained.

    Dear miniSTER!
I think you have to get more educated before you take on the task specially in the education ministry given to you. You are on the wrong side of the coin. As soon as you got your ministry and before you could digest (understood) it, the comment you made reflects how are intentions between commitments and your dirty political image.

Dear Mr. G. Bhat, Mangalore - When the earlier govt. has done deliberate wrong things it becomes the duty of the new govt. to rectify those serious errors. One cannot justify saffronization of text books in a secular country. Rest everything comes next.

    Dear Mr KRPrabhu, Mangalore/Bengalur
The following is one of many instances for Safron example.
An instance from the class VIII Hindi textbook refers to a lesson on 'Punyakoti' where a tiger takes an oath saying that "consumption of cow's meat is a bad thought henceforth, I will not eat cow's meat", whereas the original Kannada version mentions no such oath.

The pain here is these people are more interested in undoing things done by previous govt and not really interested in improving our education system. Why dont they look into the below issues in our education system.
1.Rural pupils should get all their rights of education equal to urban children.
2.Schools shall be governed by the government directly and minimum facility and teaching staff shall be ensured in all schools.
3.BPL children should get free education and meal in all schools.Government should continue previous govt schemes.
4.School children up to 10th std should get free bus passes.

    Mr Prabhu,

I agree with you and when we were small we had secular credentials in our text books and we used to read the biography of great reformers like Vivekananda, Sankar charya, Madhwacharya, Ramanujacharya, Jainsm Buddhism, greater religious founders like Mohamed and Islam, Jesus and Christianity, Mahaveer and Jainism Guru Nanak and Sikhism, But now all these are matters of past and BJP backed by RSS have d all above personalities and retained only which suits them like Manuvaad. They have Godified Nathuram Godse and Vir Sarvarkar...They are into the exercise of poisoning the minds of young kids and spreading hate and venom on other communities. For them Indian means Hindu and no muslim or christian is Indian. For them Brahman is Gods avatar and all other varnas are born to serve brahmins and objects of ownership by manuvadis..... Now tide has changed and you cant swim against the tide...We need far more secular society than what we see today. We should teach our children to respect other religions and their places of worships..We shud teach them to spread love and peace and not hate and devision...RSS cant be called as patriotic or nationalist organisaton who have been implicated in bomb and killings of others in cases like masjid, dargah bombings, samjautha bombings. Can any organisation be called as patriotic if it kills its own citizens from other faiths just because they dont follow in what it believes in....United we stand and devided we fall...We have seen enough hate, devisions in our society.. We must stop further devison and hate...should we need to achieve peace and prosperity. No social justice means no peace.. Our books should preach social justice and equality of birth and equality of law and equality of status. Nothing more and nothing less. We should speak the truth in our histroy books. Dont preach that Taj Mahal was built by Ranapratap singh as Tejomahalaya and Shahjan destroyed it and built Tajmahal in its place in memory of his wife.

Under the previous regime there had been organized efforts to vitiate the young minds of the students with fascist ideas by twisting historical facts and giving one-sided picture of several things. Several Secular thinking personalities and organizations had put up a fight against this move.
The statement of the education minister who wants to purify the text books is a welcome step.
But it should be acknowledged that in the last few years the initial damage has been done.
I only hope that the minister keeps to his word and not buckle under any pressure from any quarter.

What is kesarikaran or saffronization of text books?
We have grown up with learning our great Hindu epics liks Ramayana, mahabharatha, dwaitha, adwaitha pantha,MBhagawan Mahaveeras life and teachings,Great Gautham Buddhs life and teachings,Life and teachings of Sree Ramakrishna,Swami Vivekanand'Gandhijis life and teachings,Nehrus life and freedon struggle, like wise many freedom fighters who are majority either brahmins or upper castes.Only Jagath Guru Sree Krishna is from Yadavas a dalith.Nowhere the conept of kesarikaran or saffronisation had come in the way.Even we learnt Jesus life and teachings,Pigambar' Mohammads teachings and many like etc., got from text books only.In our village though in earlier days most people were uneducated but fully conversant with storeys from Mahabharath,Ramayana etc., through viwing Yakshagana folk art populour in our coastal belt. This art is not confined to only Hindus. Many from other religion also shown interest in it.Were those days are influenced by saffronization or Kesarikaran?

Saffron is just like any other color in electromagnetic spectrum. It appeals to our senses ... Giving extra meaning n weightage to saffron color made things worse.

On a serious note, saffronization of text books must be stopped. Infact all religious bias must be stopped. a new born baby all fine, but once starts learning with bias from elementary level, their future too gets biased towards one side and hold strong views that are not healthy for the society. Text books must be made objective oriented and also more of learning the right stuff at tender age. A holistic n universal approach is welcome step in moving in right direction in education field. One could introduce " Values and Ethics " course with varying depth depending on mental maturity of students could be in school/college. This course which could be an abstraction of ideas from all spheres of human knowledge/experience will help students to respect n value each other as living species. Respect for nature, birds, animals etc also is important. Those who are obsessed with religion n culture must be made to think with a hawk-eye and broader approach. Being moderate is important than being extremist in accepting ideologies.

I salute Mr.Kimmane Ratnakar. Let us not waste time in politicizing the education. Education is knowledge and its values are to be adopted in our life and in social welfare of the society. The books must remain as teachers of wisdom and the time has come to keep it safe from communal agendas.

Ha ha... Some people are still burning and cannot digest failure and defeat. They are still trying to justify but all in vain. Another famous saying that i recalled "Empty vessel makes more noise"!!. If the opposition was in power the comments would be totally different. We the people of india are not stupid and hence the fitting answer in this terms elections. The previous government tried to link religion, caste, temple, jobs, education etc etc with politics reducing the once peaceful india to a country of internal hate, jealousy, domination, splitting on relegious grounds, female torture etc. Education is the most important weapon to build a child's successful future. Lets hope we end up with knowledgable stuff in the books rather than tales and stories with a self centred motive to gain more votes.

Good begining Mr. Education minister. The previous regime had tried its best to indoctrinate and safronize the education. They were doing their best to mould the young brains to one particular philosopy. Also Mr minister, please introduce more and more of topic relating to ethics, civics, trafic and moral values in the children. Make the young ones to adopt tolerance but conscience to injustice ...
