Doha, May 21: Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Bernard Moras, who set his foot on the soil of Doha-Qatar May 18 on a private visit, was thanked and honoured by the Mangalore Cricket Club for his exemplary service to the Catholic community of India and the courage he is showing to make our voice heard.

The venue at the Merwab Hotel at Al Sadd was jam-packed with MCC members and well-wishers, who gathered in multitude to thank the Archbishop and show their appreciation and gratitude.

Reena Castelino opened the presentation ceremony with a lovely introduction of the genius of the Archbishop, followed by the welcome dance by the little children – Ronson Fernandes, Suzanne Fernandes, Ashleyn Castelino, Ashral Castelino, Nikita Rego, Jade Mascarenhas and Joshua Mascarenhas. Then the incumbent president Sunil D’Silva welcomed the Archbishop and spoke to introduce the activities of the Club and in brief the history of the club. Immediate past president Richard D’Souza praised the Prelate for his courageous work and read the ‘Maan Patr’

Founder member Jerald D’Mello presented the shawl, Sunil presented the memento plaque and Richard presented the ‘Maan Patr’

In his address, the Archbishop thanked the gathering for the love they showered on him and invited them to lead a life of peace, love and harmony. He also appreciated the good work of MCC not only in promoting these values, but also in bringing the community together, and keeping alive their native culture and language in a distant land.

In the question answer session, he spoke on the problems of the youth in Bangalore and what the church is doing in comforting the youth in their distress. But he emphasized that the magnitude of the problem is so huge that any effort is just like a drop of water in the ocean.

He also spoke on the language issue faced by the Bangalore diocese and the complexity of the same as an answer to another query.

The programme came to an end with sumptuous snacks provided by Hotel Merweb.
