'Migrant' Siddaramaiah fuels debate, Congress chief says all are equal

Bangalore, May 22 (IANS): Since Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is viewed in a section of the Congress as a "migrant" because he moved over from the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) in 2006, the state party Wednesday sought to end the insider-outsider debate.

"Once someone joins the Congress, there is no discrimination on the basis of 'mirgant' and 'original' Congress members," Karnataka Congress unit president G. Parameshwara told reporters here.

"All Congress members are equal," he asserted, responding to questions on Siddaramaiah and several members of his ministry being dubbed as 'migrants' by a section of the party as they had joined the Congress or returned to it after being members of other parties.

Siddaramaiah, 64, has spent most of his political career from 1983 to 2006 in many factions of the Janata Dal.

He took over as chief minister May 13. His selection was made easy as Parameshwara, a strong contender, was defeated in the assembly polls held May 5 in which the Congress wrested power from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Parameshwara Wednesday laid down guidelines for the Congress ministers to strengthen the party in the state.

He said one minister should visit the party office in Bangalore to meet party workers and receive their petitions/letters. A timetable on which minister should visit the office, which day and time would be announced soon.

Parameshwara said ministers during visit to districts - the state has 30 districts - should visit the party office and meet the workers.

Each minister should also send monthly report on the functioning of their ministries to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, which in turn would forward it to the All India Congress Committee.

Parameshwara said that five vacancies in the state ministry would be filled soon by Siddaramaiah in consultation with the party chief.

Siddaramaiah has inducted 28 ministers. The Karnataka ministry can be 34-strong, including the chief minister, as per the constitutional arrangement.

Parameshwara said he and the chief minister would soon decide on the number of legislators and workers who should be made heads of various boards and corporations. Many of these posts are equivalent to a junior minister's rank and carry perks and privileges.

We all know, in Politics, jumping parties often is common. Once a candidate joins a party, she or he, become members of that party. So her / his past is mostly over looked. So why crib on that. Also, now it is time for Govt to ensure a Good Governance and a Good Government to our State. Please stop your in fight & start to work as a team. Your elevation happens based on your performance in the party, young or old. We need better results in Govt performance and also improvement in basic facilities to people. Put your heart and soul & start to perform your duties. Grapes are bitter when we dont get them..!!

Interesting!...While accountability (to public via assembly) is good, now KPCC (read Parameshwara) will remote control the ministers and government?

Interestingly, this victory of Congress party should not be construed as to revival excercise of party people/leaders as is being highlightened now at various circles.Victory purely because of bad governance, rampant corruption, nepotism by party rank and file in last five years.Instead of making wasteful discussuions on this count people should think of regular business.
If things are perceived many surprises may surface including the real reaon for Dr.Parameshwar's defeat when there was massive tide in favour of Congress party this time.Essentially there should and ought to be a subbotage worked out for his defeat for sure.....

Too many divisions tried to make inroads in the State of Karnataka, but for inherent quality of Unity in diversity, our people resisted the divisions!

The same wisdom and vision of our people will straiten the tainted and will bring Glory our land!
No one is born for any party but parties are born for the people!

Let righteous thoughts and actions may only find acceptance from people!

Ismail bhai, your analysis is always based on Hindu caste division.Kuruba,Lingayath,OBC,Gowda,Poojari,Bunt...etc.How would your analysis stand in Mangalore North & South winners this time? In their respective constituencies Mr Lobo & Mr Bava won not because of their caste- but because of heavy anti-BJP wave. Siddu won Varuna last time because of sympathy wave for him for being thrown out of JDS & this time for being the CM candidate.Caste politics may work in other states- but not in Karnataka.

    Shyam Bhai,

UDUPI-MANGALORE-PUTTUR-KUNDAPURA and finally BAVAKA were won because of MORAL POLICING plus bonus from BJP's bad rule. You accept or not whoever watched HOMESTAY ATTACK by custodian of culture affected BJP very badly.Sir,Just watch in you tube once again probable TV 9 A.Pradesh TV your blood will get boiling if you were an India...Women were not manhandled in Indian culture.Where they catch teenager female amount to....

Coming to your issue,I contradict your contention. So far most of the times Vokkaligas and Lingayaths are adored CM seats in Karnataka !!Kuruba community wholeheartedly supported Congress due to Siddu. In fact it is first time a Kurba leader occupying the seat.BUT I rate Siddu not only he is Kuraba leader but champion of OBCs including minority SC/ST.

However, one should not underestimate powerful two communities of Karnataka(Vokkaliga-Lingayath)Their MLAs share highest than other communities. How 80 plus year Shamanur S.Shankerappa inducted in to cabinet? because of political compulsion(Lingayth)I think next in line will be from SC/ST and finally minority will occupy coveted post one day. Amid all these compulsions Congress only could do justice to SOCIAL JUSTICE..Example MV.Moily's elevation to CM post.

People using the word 'migrant' against Siddaramaiah are useless and they can not bring votes for the party or themselves. This is an intolerant attitude of few people in JD (S), BJP and by some looters of state wealth. Siddaramaiah is a lone or with a party, he is a mass leader and the party will prosper where ever he is. This prompted Smt. Sonia Gandhi herself to nominate Siddu as a CM candidate. By doing so, the followers of Siddu have become slaves of Congress voluntarily and they will be grateful to Congress forever, whether Siddu is there or not. Congress is not like JD(S) to cheat on winning elections by projecting somebody as CM candidate.

Dear Praveen, if your prediction comes true, then after 20 years “Kar Nataka” will not remain in Indian Map as separate State under Congress rule. Hyderabad Karnataka will join Telangana, Mangalore, Sullia, etc will join Kerala, Belgaum, etc will join Maharashtra, Karawar, etc will Goa and my village Mundkur will become Manchester under Karkal Taluk, Udupi Dist. What is your opinion on Yeddy now ? Soon he will be pursuaded to join BJP and once it happens, will you term him as "Migrant". Please clarify. This applies to so many leaders of BJP like Uma Bharathi, Jaitley etc.

It is natural to think that way because those who worked for long years to Congress unlucky to get coveted post. That being said no Congress leader has charisma and mass appeal like Siddu under given circumstances. He is a leader in real sense and always fought for haves not.....When whole Govt machinery plus BSY and HDK ganged/Camped to finish him politically in VARUNA CONSTITUENCY in a by- election after joining Congress,he emerged victorious!!!!No politician in contemporary politics of Karnataka withstand political onslaught by the duo bigwigs (HDK/BSY)in varuna by- election! But last laugh was with Siddu in few hundred votes of majority!

Siddu is a champion of OBC even though he represent Kuruba community.I think after Devraj Urs, Congress got same(URS) caliber politician. SIDDU INDEED AN ASSET TO CONGRESS and PERIYAPATNA by- election will be testing issue of his popularity.Importantly, that candidate is a close friend of Siddu who deserted JDS along with him and he is only Lingayath leader to quit JDS with Siddu!!!

    Dear Jeevan,
As I said earlier, this is not the place where you belong. Let them enjoy the success.

This is not first time some one won or some one loses & winning after a LONG gap is good because at least temporarly there will be some pause and the leaders will have some consideration for people welfare.
