Kundapur, May 25: In what may be termed as a display of mob fury, locals here tied up a man said to be mentally ill after he allegedly tried to molest a girl and then pushed her in front of a moving bike, which resulted in her sustaining serious injuries.

The incident occured near Shastri circle on NH 66 here on Friday May 24 evening.

A man, said to be mentally ill, allegedly tried to molest a girl who was standing beside the road. The frightened girl resisted him and began shouting for help. The man, sensing danger, pushed the girl away on to the road.

A bike that was passing by at that moment hit the girl, causing serious injuries. She was rushed to a hospital.
.
Infuriated by the man's action, the locals caught hold of him and tied him up against an electric pole and thrashed him black and blue.

The police on receiving information about the incident rushed to the spot, rescued the man and took him away to the police station.

In another incident, the driver of a long route goods lorry, allegedly drunk, drove his vehicle recklessly and hit a pedestrian. The lorry was stopped by the locals at Shastri circle.

However, the driver, in a drunken stupor, lashed back at the locals and refused to admit his fault. An argument arose and soon the situation threatened to go out of hand with locals taking the driver to task.

Police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control. The lorry driver was taken into custody.

All those who are shown in the photograph are mentally ill except the accused. Come on you idiots with no back bone. Help that guy if you can, let the man be taken care of by the right authorities for his illness. Do not beat him up. You people are pathetic !

The incident only shows the mental sickness of the society we live in. first and foremost we shirk the moral and social responsibility towards these people and when they go out of control we are ready to take advantage of the situation by thrashing them. can it happen anyway else in the world? we have trained our minds through culture to accept the pitiable conditon of people as normal. we as society need mental treatment

I blame this incident for police inaction and the people.
A mad man does not know what he does,'cause he is mad. It was the duty of the locals to inform the police about such poeple or simply hand over them to police instead of waiting for some crime like this to happen and then beat the person. The police must have noticed this man on the road and they should have sent him to rehabilitation centre. Here I mainly blame the police.

Well done Kundapurians. You all deserve bravery medals for beating up mentally ill / drunken humans. Don't mistake me. I never said don't punish the offenders. PUBLIC HAVE NO RIGHT TO BEAT PEOPLE. Daijiworld readers please don't support the thoughts of giving power to the mob. Use the mob power to catch the offender / handover them to the police. LET POLICE DO THEIR JOB. Let mob power compel the police to do their job. If this behavior continues soon you or me can be beaten up by the mob for silly reason or no reason.

Sometimes even this type of treatment brings back the mentally ill person to his senses.Thank god the girl had an escape. If something worse had happened? He had the capacity to push the girl sensing danger hearing the alarm. Any action taken against the mentally ill person who raped and killed the innocent child Soujanya.
Leaving the mentally sick on the streets is as good as leaving the cows on the streets. The family members should take care of such persons as they are dangerous to the society. If such persons are found on the streets, concerned authorities should immediately shift them to the rehabilitation centres. Allow our girls to move freely on streets without fear.

Cool Eness.. if they local have not come to rescue there would have been another girl victim. this is the problem with we Indians..if public react there is a problem and if they do not react there is a problem. The mentally Ill person of all his sickness had sense to molest a girl.. what kind if sickness is it? once i had come across a same kind of incedent in Chennai.. when a person was caught red handed trying to molest a girl he first started acting like blind and after that, mad man. Public treatment is sometimes is a best cure for these.. let police lock him inside a mental asylum and release only when he is found good and safe of public.

Here public looks mentally sick. Whatever may be the situation public should not punish him like this.First he needs hospitalisation and needs treatment.Whatever he did its it's bad but public approach towards him is against humanity.

I don't think mentally ill man deserves such ill treatment from the public. What happened is an unfortunate incident which was beyond the control of any one.

Most of the heavy vehicle drivers are DUI and it is known fact and reason for accidents most of the time.
