Udupi, May 25: The newly-elected Congress MLA Pramod Madhwaraj’s new office at taluk panchayat premises was officially inaugurated by Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development here on Saturday May 25.

The minister said that the city is facing severe water shortage, and to sort this out, discussion will be held with the central authorities to avail Varahi water to the city. A survey for the same will also be done at the earliest.

"The state government has appealed to the centre regarding supply of water from Varahi to Udupi. Besides, appropriate action will also be taken to speed up the work on Varahi project," he said.

"Providing permanent drinking water facility will be the aim of this government," he stressed.

Sorake also said that Udupi will be developed to such high standards that it will set and example to others.

"We are determined to develop the rural areas by adopting the multi-village scheme and provide all basic facilities in Udupi. Multi-village scheme and title deed issues will be considered on priority basis. People will get these amenities at the earliest," he said.

"City development scheme has been already proposed with Kamal Nath, union minister for urban development and Ajay Maken, minister of state for urban development and principal secretary. Further steps will be taken in this regard," he said.

Pramod Madhwaraj said that five villages will have full-fledged drainage system. "The process of cleaning drainages in the city will be completed within the next 10 days. The rain we had a few days back increased the ground water level and we could survive one more month," he said.

On his new office, he said, "This office will be open for the service of the common man. People can contact me any time."

Janardhan Bhandarkar, Bhirthi Rajesh Shetty, William Martis, Keshav Kundar Malpe and others were present.

'CM never spoke of taking control over Sri Krishna Math'

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, Sorake defended chief minister Siddaramaiah on the burning issue of government's proposal to take control of Sri Krishna Math and said that the CM had never made such a statement.

"The chief minister spoke of sorting out the confusion created by the erstwhile BJP government in the muzrai department. Temple trustees who have been working for long are neglected while persons without any connection to the temple have been appointed as trustees. There are many similar problems existing in the muzrai department. The chief minister said such issues will be sorted out. What is wrong in that?"

“The chief minister never said anything about inclusion of Sri Krishna Math under muzrai department," he asserted.

He also assured that a solution would be found to the issue of Brahmavar sugar factory and that he would hold discussions with the deputy commissioner in this regard.

"We have already fulfilled four points in our manifesto. Our party manifesto is like a religious scripture for us and we will abide by our promises," he said.

    Mr D'Silva,

In this I would like to include affordable higher education to all deserving students, who reluctantly opt out their passion to some thing for survival and lose opportunity for themselves as well as for the society in becoming a creators of opportunities for tomorrow. How long we should remain a "developing" country??? Lets put the label "developed" ASAP by eliminating the development of Higher Education a business for the few privileged!!!! Make the higher education affordable by government participation 100%. Like Canada/Australia etc...

I find it very absurd when Sorake talks about getting water to Udupi from Varahi, which has wasted and could lead to more wastage of public funds if goes ahead(without managing properly), while we have so many rivers flowing in Udupi and Mangalore districts that can provide ample water not only to our districts but to others as well, if they construct dams at strategic locations, with lesser cost and even more speedier than the Varahi project itself.

I don't mean to say, Varahi project if done properly will not benefit Udupi in the long run, but it is surely not the immediate solution for water scarcity.

He must also concentrate on keeping these rivers poolution, sewage and garbage free for better use of the public too.

By constructing dams on our rivers, we need not waste money on rain water harvest schemes that have proven failure in most of the cases already.

It is the duty of elected representatives to provide infrastructures such as water, electricity, transport, roads, medicals, housing and cleaning which is state subjects. Industrialization is equally important to provide jobs for young generation for that land acquisition is necessary. People should co-operate with the Govt. There are people want easy money that is why they interfere with the officers who carry out the work. Please do not go to elected representatives to carry out illegal work. There are so may faces I saw they have bad records in life.

Dear Jeevan Bhai, “Siddu’s Thotte Business” having some starting problem. Before its flow, HDK already accused Siddu for taking bribe of Rs 40 Lakhs for granting license to start “Thotte Business”. I think BJP should agree to make HDK as Opposition Parties Leaders since he is sharper than anybody else in BJP for attacking “Goose Khors”. Remember for Yeddy’s down fall HDK started first accusing him in every move

I am happy to note that the new government means business in every respect. I wish you all the best in your endeavour. May I request the Honourable Minister to kindly bestow your attention to the following:There is no link between Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada. Both these districts be named as Karwar and Mangalore Districts. This will help in removing the confusion. Gurpur river bridge is very old and narrow - to solve the problem either a new bridge or additional bridge be constructed. International Mangalore Airport is not people friendly. Something be done in this respect. For speedy development of Mangalore and Udupi, they be made tourist friendly by making use of international airport and Panambur Port.

Dear Sorake & Madhwaraj, stop celebrating victory through parades and don’t give much importance to opening of new Office with new furniture. Don’t forget that in democratic way of life no Office is permanent for anyone. Same time stop mingling with Temple or Matt issues like you people always stayed away from Mosques and Church issues. Thanks to Late V S Acharya, Udupi already developed to such an extent that, you people need to maintain the infrastructure already developed by previous government. Pls concentrate to solve the rubbish recycling issue which was long pending due to land acquisition disputes. Drinking water problem can be solved if all likely minded people come together by constructing few more mini water dam. Pls also pay attention to restructuring of Udupi RTO Office, further development of Udupi Railway Station, Government Hospitals at Udupi and Manipal region, etc. Press for early release of funds to complete NH 66 four lane constructions

Mr. Sulaiman it is true that he is an MLA from Kaup but to bring to ur knowledge he is also A CABINET MINISTER FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND ALSO THE DISTRICT INCHARGE MINISTER OF UDUPI DISTRICT. Which means he is to oversee the urban development of all the regions in the state and not just KAUP UDUPI OR PUTTUR.. So please dont comment so carelessly on daiji..and moreover his comment on CM's statement is just that inorder to clear the confusion in ADMINISTRATION OF THE TEMPLE not confusion among the people.

I would like to draw the kind attention of our minister that all our rivers in which we learned swimming during our childhood are contaminated. Now even fish cannot swim in these rivers leave alone humans. One can see only plastic bags filled with household garbage swimming in most of the rivers. Please create awareness about importance of clean rivers and bring total ban on plastic bags.
I am living in a community of 874 apartments in Bangalore and proud to say we manage all our garbage inside the compound and call ourselves ZERO waste management community. We segregate our wet (Kitchen waste) waste and dry waste and sanitary waste at source. All our wet waste goes to Organic Waste Converter (OWC) inside the compound and produce good quality manure for our garden and we sell whatever is in excess. We earn some revenue from our dry waste. Only sanitary waste goes to the land fill.
I urge the minister to invest tax payer’s money in reusing the house hold and kitchen waste for their own benefit and restore the beauty of mother land.

Regarding Sri Krishna Mutt's issue,Hon'ble minister tried to justify CM's remarks on Sri Krishna Mutt. But Udupi people are not ignorant and stupid to accept his justification. They speak in Text book Kannada unlike other parts of Karnataka.Mr. Sorake has good reputation. Hope people will not lose their confidence and trust in him.The current CM is obsessed with Sri Krishna Mutt. Before when he was deputy CM ,he had pledged to take over Sri Krishna Mutt. But with in no time the govt. collapsed. Now he is yet to settle with his new responsibilities, and instead of giving priority to various important burning issues,he seems to prefer to focus on Sri Krishna Mutt as his top priority.

Dear Jagadish, here Mr. Sorake is acting smart(or trying to be smart)by saying CM did not speak about taking over the Krishna Math. Yes. it is true that CM did not speak about taking over of Math but he did speak about taking over of Krishna Temple. You know Krishna Temple is managed by Krishna Maths. This is just a case of trying to act smart that is it.

Mr Sorake, Kindly advise the CM not to go back on the creation of additional taluks. It needs only 100 crores where as CM has already unilaterally announced a package of 4,000 crores for the rice scheme. If this decision is not fulfilled, then it is going to have negative impact on Loksabha elections and every one will vote against congress. Money matter should not be the reason for the cancellation / deferral of taluk formations
