Udupi, May 25: Two little boys, both aged 7, lost their lives while swimming at Kodangala Vishnumurthy Temple pond here on Saturday May 25.

The deceased have been identified as Prateek (7) and his cousin Karthik (7), both residents of Karvalu and students of second standard.

In the afternoon, the two of them went to the Temple pond for a swim all on their own. While playing in the water, they fell in and could not swim to safety. It is said that puja was going on at the Temple, hence no one was near the pond to save them or raise an alarm.

After about two hours, when the children did not return, the families grew anxious and began searching for them. They alerted the locals too who joined in the search.

When they came near the Temple pond, they saw Prateek's body floating. They looked for Karthik and retrieved his body from the water.

The bodies were later shifted to KMC mortuary at Manipal.

Prateek was the son of the late Krishnamurthy while Karthik was the son of Mohan Nayak, a painting contractor by profession and brother of Krishnamurthy. They each have a sister.

Prateek was a student of Shantiniketan School, Alevoor, while Karthik studied at Karvalu government school.

Manipal police have registered a case.

It is a sad incident. We can not blame anybody for this. It is very cruel sometimes children get a second chance to live and they never go to water there after. It is their bad luck could not get second chance. It is cruel.

Very sad incident. Why parents are so negligent living their children to play near the water. Children are Angels and can not be predictable..They will not realise the danger in playing water.Parents should watch closely their children. Any way God knows the best ..he knew the birth date and death date. May God give strength and courage to their families to bear this loss. May thier souls Rest in Peace.

I REITERATE MY EARLIER CALL TO PEOPLE NOT TO GO TO WATER.
IT IS NOT OUR NATURAL HABITAT.
WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO LINGER THERE FOR LONGER TIMES.
TIRED SMART SWIMMER IS AT GREATER CHANCE TO FIND WATERY GRAVE THAN A GUY ON THE SHORE.
