Mangalore: Need to nurture love for language stressed at Konkani convention

Mangalore, May 26: Two-decade old Konkani Samskrutika Sangha (KSS) organized a Konkani convention at TV Raman Pai Hall, Kodialbail here on Sunday May 26.
The day-long convention was jointly organized by KSS along with GSB Mahila Vrinda, Mangalore, Daivajna Brahmana Samaj, Young Chitrapur Saraswath, Vyshyavani Samaj and Chaptekar Saraswath Samaj.
Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of World Konkani Centre inaugurated the convention. He said, “We the Konkani speaking community should nurture love for the language and feel proud about it. Only then will it be possible to achieve lingual and cultural progress."
President Daivajna Brahmana Samaj, Rajendra Kumar Shet, Meenakshi Pai of GSB Mahila Vrinda, Manoj S Nayak of Vyshyavani Samaj, Brahmanand Kandlur of Young Chitrapur Saraswath and S Srinivasa Nayak of Chaptekar Saraswath Samaj were the guests of honour. Venkatesh Baliga, president of KSS presided over the occasion.
The morning session comprise presentation of papers by eminent Konkani scholars like Dr K Mohan Pai, Dr Jayavanth Nayak, Aruna Nagaraj, Geeta C Kini, Mangalpady Namadev Shenoy, Prashanth Shet, and Koni Sheshagiri Nayak. Dr B Devadas Pai, registrar of Konkani Sahitya Academy presided. The afternoon session featured Konkani Poets' Meet. Well-known Konkani poet Kochi Ananth Bhat presided.
The valedictory programme comprised award ceremony along with cultural presentation by various troupes and Konkani Sugam Sangeet was also performed. Kasargod Chinna, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy was the chief guest. Mahesh Bondal, secretary, Sarswat Education Society and Annappa Pai, vice-president, Canara High School Association were the guests of honour.
Malayalam cine actor Samskruthy Shenoy was honoured with ‘Konkani Samskruthika Rayabhari’ Award. Awards were also presented to M Madhav Pai (Konkani Bhasha Sampanna Puraskar), Vasanthi R Nayak (Konkani Sangeeta Sampanna Puraskar) Pangal Vilas Nayak (Konkani Samaj Udyama Sampanna Puraskar), V Krishnamurthy, weightlifter (Konkany Samaj Kreeda Sampanna Puraskar), and Vishwa Konkani Students Scholarship Fund (Konkani Samaj Shikshana Seva Puraskar)
Silver jubilee committee president of Konkani Samskruthika Sangha M Ramesh Krishna Shet was honoured with ‘Konkani Samaj Seva Ratna Puraskar’ for his outstanding contribution.
Venkatesh N Baliga, president, Konkani Samskrutika Sangha welcomed, secretary Ratnakar Kudva compered while treasurer Govind Prabhu proposed the vote of thanks.
