GMU hosts 'Mase' annual science exhibition for students

Ajman, May 26: Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, UAE hosted the GMU MASE - Annual and Medical Science Exhibition on the May 22 and 23. The objective to host the grand event was to provide a platform for the upcoming students to display their talents in the field of medicine and science, to provide them with complete career path and to encourage in getting involved in the profession of Medicine and Healthcare and to provide a fair chance and create a competitive environment for students to come out with excellent results.

Chandramouli, Dean, Physiology Department, Prof Manda Venkatramana, Dean, College of Medicine, GMU, Dr Joshua Ashok, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, GMU, Prof Arun Shirwaikar, Dean, College of Pharmacy, GMU, Dr P K Menon, Director, Administration and Institutional Research, GMU and Prof Mohamed Said Hamed, Dean, College of Dentistry, GMU inaugurated the GMU MASE - Annual and Medical Science Exhibition.

The grand event was attended to full capacity by more than 3000 students from around 200 schools. Students from 51 schools from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah with special interest and talent in the field of medical and sciences showcased their innovative project work, posters and paintings. Apart from the handmade models/displays by the high school students, posters and audio visual presentations were conspicuously displayed. Around 176 scientific projects and 53 creative posters/wall charts were displayed by the participating students. In addition to these events, a Painting Competition was held for the first time. For absolute viewing pleasure, a total of 101 paintings were on display. In line with the contest, the participating students were given a chance to learn from the exhibits displayed by various departments from GMU such as the MBBS, Pharma D, DMD & BPT programs in the form of specimens, cadavers, life like mannequins and simulators.

The winners of the GMU MASE 2012, Annual and Medical Science Exhibition were selected by a panel of judges which comprised of eminent doctors and faculty members from GMU.

In the Posters category for the Xth grade students, Our Own English High School, Sharjah was awarded the first prize for the award winning poster on ‘Medical Application of Nanotechnology’, second prize to Delhi Private School, Sharjah for their poster on ‘Neural Development’, and third prizes to Pristine Private School, Dubai for their poster on ‘Living Breathless’.

In the Posters category for the XIth Grade students, Our Own High School, Al Warqa’a, Dubai bagged the first prize for its poster on ‘Health, The Expectation and Reality’, Our Own English High School, Sharjah bagged the Second Prize for its poster on ‘Stem Cells’ and Emirates English Speaking School, Dubai bagged the third Prize for its poster on ‘SARS’.

In the Posters category for the XIIth Grade students, Delhi Private School, Sharjah won the first prize for its award winning poster on ‘Genetic Disorder’, while Al Ameer English School, Ajman and Leaders Private School, Sharjah won the second and third prizes for their posters ‘PORPHYRIA’ and ‘The impact of the word “NO” respectively.

In the Viewer’s Choice - Poster category for the 10th Grade students, Indian School, Ajman bagged the first prize for their poster on ‘Amazing Microbes’, while Leaders Private School, Sharjah bagged the second prize for their poster on ‘Onions through Ages”.

Our Own High School Al Warqa’a, Dubai bagged the first prize for their poster on ‘Living a Healthy Life’, Gulf Indian High School, Dubai bagged the second prize for their poster on Alzheimer’s Disease in the Viewer’s Choice - Poster category for the 11th Grade students.

Gulf Indian High School, Dubai bagged the first prize for their poster on ‘Genetic Disorder’ and New Indian Modern School, Sharjah bagged the second prize for their poster on Diabetes and its harmful effects’ in the Viewer’s Choice - Poster category for the 12th Grade students.

In the Projects category for the Xth Grade students, Delhi Private School, Dubai was awarded the first prize for its award winning project ‘SARWA, Solar Assisted Rotary Winged Aircraft’, while Al Ameer English School, Ajman was awarded the second prize for its project ‘Radio Controlled Aircraft’ and Gulf Asian English School, Sharjah the third prize for its project ‘To show the working and advantages of pacemaker’.

In the Projects category for the XIth Grade students, Delhi Private School, Dubai bagged the first prize for its project ‘Silicosis’, while Leaders Private School, Sharjah bagged the second prize for its project on ‘The Triangle of Life’ and Our Own High School, Al- Warqa’a, Dubai bagged the third prize for its project on ‘Orthokeratology’.

In the Projects category for XIIth Grade students, New Indian Modern School, Sharjah won the first prize for the outstanding project ‘Vaan- De- Graff Generator, while the second prize was won by Delhi Private School, Sharjah for their project ‘Smoker’s Lungs’ and the third prize by Sharjah Indian School, Sharjah for their project ‘Hovercraft’.

In the Viewer’s Choice - Project category for the 10th Grade students, Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeirah bagged the first prize for their project “Black Gold Alchemy’, while Our Own English High School, Sharjah bagged the second prize for their project ‘Solar City’ and New Indian Model School, Sharjah bagged the third prize for their project on ‘Umbilical Cord Blood Preservation’.

In the Viewer’s Choice - Project category for the 11th Grade students, Indian School, Ajman bagged the first prize for their project “Brain Injury and Hematoma’, while Indian Public High School, Ras Al Khaimah bagged the second prize for their project ‘Still Model of Curiosity Rover’ and Emirates English Speaking School, Dubai bagged the third prize for it Steffi Alex from the Gulf Indian High School, Dubai, Rishi Govind Orakkan, Abu Dhabi Indian School - Abu Dhabi, V. Padmavathi from the Indian High School, Dubai were the first, second and third prize winners in the Painting competition held for the 11th Grade students. s project on ‘Hovercraft’.

In the Viewer’s Choice - Project category for the 12th Grade students, Al Ameer English School, Ajman bagged the first prize for their project “Bio Diesel, while The English School, Umm Al Quwain bagged the second prize for their project ‘Fruit Battery Robot’ and Emirates English Speaking School, Dubai bagged the third prize for their project on ‘Hovercraft’.

In the Painting competition held for the 10th Grade students, Rajat Sharma from Dubai Scholars Private School - Dubai, Sandra Sreekant from The Central School, Dubai and Pranav Jain from Delhi Private School, Sharjah were awarded with the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Steffi Alex from the Gulf Indian High School, Dubai, Rishi Govind Orakkan, Abu Dhabi Indian School - Abu Dhabi, V. Padmavathi from the Indian High School, Dubai were the first, second and third prize winners in the Painting competition held for the 11th Grade students.

While Prashanth Rao from Delhi Private School, Sharjah was awarded with the first prize, Maya Kumari, Gulf Indian High School - Dubai, Arushi Mittal - Delhi Private School, Sharjah were awarded with second and third prizes respectively in the Painting competition held for the 12th Grade students.

In the Viewer’s Choice, Painting Competition for the 10th Grade students, Sneha Pankajakshan, Leaders Private School, Sharjah and Mohammed Azyan Noor Jalal, Pristine Private School, Dubai bagged the first and second prizes respectively.

In the Viewer’s Choice, Painting Competition for the 11th Grade students, Anoushka Sheroy, Delhi Private School, Sharjah and Karan Zavar, Delhi Private School - Dubai bagged the first and second prizes respectively.

In the Viewer’s Choice, Painting Competition for the 12th Grade students, Sidharth. J, Our Own High School Al Warqa’a, Dubai and Debmalya Ghosh, Leaders Private School bagged the first and second prizes respectively.

Delhi Private School, Sharjah emerged as Winner of the prestigious Overall Performance Prize.
