Mangalore, May 27: ‘Rachana’, a forum of Catholic businessmen, professionals, and entrepreneurs, organized a felicitation function in the city on Sunday May 26 at a hotel here in honour of recently elected MLA, J R Lobo.

Addressing the gathering, Lobo said that God guides destinies of people, and that He has plans for every individual. "I am grateful for the love and support of people. It is all God's plan, which gave me sudden inspiration. Politics was not at all a career interest for me earlier. I have worked with politicians, including Gundu Rao when he was the chief minister, and seen them from close quarters. I never dreamt that I would be a politician one day," he said.

“In my victory, people from all walks of life have helped through prayers, inspiration, and efforts. I could become MLA because of the divine support of the God. The fact that I have won in spite of being a Catholic candidate from Mangalore South constituency with a comfortable margin proves that people from across all sections of the society and communities had voted for me. Nearly 50 percent of my votes came from Hindus. My responsibility has doubled and I will do my best to serve everyone. I am an MLA for all people, and will take all the communities into confidence in developing my constituency,” he said.

Lobo further said that his victory has a special significance because of the fact that he had defeated four-time MLA and deputy speaker of the state assembly. He said that after the victory in the election, he is getting recognition everywhere, and receiving congratulatory messages for bringing Congress back to winning ways in Mangalore (south) constituency.

"Mangalore South constituency has its own special value. When I met Congress leader A K Antony and introduced myself as MLA of this constituency, he was very happy and appreciated the fact that my win had come against a strong opponent," he said.

"I was confident of securing victory by a margin of 6,000-8,000 votes as I was all the time on the field with the people. But a margin of 12,000 really surprised me," he added.

He identified core sectors for development in his constituency as tourism, information technology, industries, and education. He also said that towards achieving this objective, creation of infrastructure and maintaining peace are of utmost importance. "It will be my priority to create an atmosphere of investment and bring stable law and order in the city, and make it the number 2 in state," he said.

Thanking Rachana for honouring him, Lobo said, "It was the vision of Catholics that sparked the formation of Rachana. It has grown strong over the years. It has given me financial and moral support, and I urge Rachana and other organizations to give me their inputs and suggestions so that I can discuss them at higher levels and work better." He also thanked Ronald Colaco, M P Noronha, Roy Castelino, Stany Alvares and others for their wholehearted support.

Capt John Prasad Menezes introduced chief guest, J R Lobo and read out the citation, while Rachana president, Roy Castelino, who delivered the welcome address, felicitated Lobo. John Monteiro and Philomena Lobo were present at the function. Titus Noronha compered the programme.

    Dear Dr. Lobo,
Our comments about facilitations is not against any important or powerful organizations. Our comments are about the timing and creating a sort of communal and community important biased one! Mr. JR Lobo has said he is from all and for all communities as such at this stage such facilitations by particular community is not needed. I understand such facilitations a year after or 3 years depending on the success and his efforts as well as his contribution to the constituency as a whole instead to a community. Is any other communities apart from Catholics facilitated Mr. Lobo? We have seen in the photographs surrounded by Mr. Lobo whose contributions to community as well as to the Society? Our only concern is his valuable time and vision/mission he has planned for the constituency will go in vain in attending most of the facilitations and cutting ribbons of influential and Hi FI communities businessmen/Groups!! JAI HO!!

Some of the comments are needlessly uncharitable. Felicitation was only one aspect. The Rachana function was an opportunity for Mr JR Lobo to inter-act with an important group of his supporters, project his vision/goals & seek views on the problems/issues to be tackled. He did this at the meeting remarkably well. It is also wrong to suggest that he is mainly attending felicitations. Ever since his victory, he has been very busy visiting various places, including inspecting incomplete projects & trying to gather information on the various needs in his constituency. Let us appreciate his efforts & commitment & support his vision/goals & not grudge the rightful felicitation he deserves.

    Dear Jacintha,
i support your views, if you see my comments below is also the same. The awards, facilitations and celebrations have become major role of MLAs/Ministers than his real tasks of representing and understanding the need of the hour/consituencies nowadays. It is not Mr. Lobo's fault, he is fixed between businessmen, Hi Fi wealthy guys, NGOs and organizations while forgetting the poor, middle class of constituency whom he was elected with high hopes!! JAI HO!!

I don't see any other MLA having to prove his credentials as representative of all communities. Why so much emphasis on JRL. Once and for all, forget that he is christian. He is an Indian, Kannadiga, people rep of Mangalore. Full stop. The more you people swarm around him, more the other communities will feel unhappy.

Mr. Lobo, please stop appearing at any felicitations. Your best felicitation is being elected, nothing can be better than that.

As someone mentioned, Halady reached every village, please reach every corner of your constituency, the people have lot more information, than your 'pad-in-had' officials.

We would have been happy if there was only one procession on a single day for all the Congress MLAs and felicitation done to all the MLAs on the same day. I only hope it want be like Krishna Palemar who used to be seen in Inaugrating and laying Foundation stones for most of the real estate projects organised by builders etc.Mr Lobo , dont accept invitations for Inaugrations of building foundation stones of private builders etc. People will definitely reject congress too as it may put you into a obligation to give licences etc later on and expose the corrupt practices. Please Inaugrate occasions which Govt is giving to its people through Congress effort .

Just imagine if these unproductive man hours ( continues felicitations ) were put to industrial or agricultural production & growth ? By now even Mr.J.R.Lobo may be fed up. I notice that the same people are at every felicitation !

People expect what best you can provide to the society. Your good and costliest time like this can be utilized for some better purposes. The voters will not keep records of your honours and facilitations but they do count on your returns to them by way of solving as many day today's problems. JAI HO!!

How can you compare or even think he is "LIKE" God to solve all the problems of his constituency!!!!
You expect complex situations to be solved in a couple of weeks time? Can you do that at your own place?
One should be sensible\reasonable in their demands too.
I hope you will be that from now onwards.

    Mr.Simple, Bangalore

As soon as JRL got elected as MLA, supporters of Yogish Bhatt and Kalladka Bhatt started demanding solutions to complex problems without taking any time!! Most of the problems they have raised are remnants of Yogish Bhat legacy. JRL yet to take oath as MLA in state assembly. So far, he has done lot of ground work, like personally visiting places and taking stock of situation, being empathetic to situations that need urgent action etc. He is getting inputs from all directions. Lot of suggestions, lot of ideas pouring in !! JRL will go mad if he listens to everyone with diverse opinions. His real work will start after swearing-in ceremony in assembly. People do not have patience to wait for some time and then evaluate work done. Majority are in a hurry to evaluate JRL when he is not yet taken oath in state assembly. Many critics are treating JRL to be like God and expecting him to deliver good, which even God cant deliver. Hope this simple answer clarifies Mr.Simple.

Read the first lines of the above news.
It is important that MLA get a chance to interact with all those mentioned there in.
Not only of one religion, Mr.Lobo need to meet other Businessmen etc. also to get their input\backing for development of his constituency. After all those businessmen and others are the backbone of any development that is going to take place there.
These Felicitations are very necessary and it is definitely not a waste of time
If he had attended a party at your place, you can term it as waste of time on part of Mr. Lobo.
One should appreciate, he has been active from the day he won the election, working out strategies for development\attending peoples' complaints.
If you and some other expect things to get solved\development done in a fortnights time, then you do not know what you are talking about. Take a cool view of things, keep a tag on the activities of all MLAs\Ministers for sometime and then if you have anything to comment good or bad please do it.

Right now, I feel, it is too early to complain against any politician\ministers\MLAs etc. of the present Government.

Very Well organized felicitation program for JRL by RACHANA. By this month end, all felicitations must get over to keep intact the meaning of felicitation. JRL must reject any invitation from his constituency-people for felicitations with immediate effect. This is indeed important. Many people including well-wishers n critics are demanding solutions for complex problems left out by BJP government. JRL is like god to solve all problems in one month, which Yogish bhat in his 14 year MLA status couldnt do.

    Mr.Cyril Cascarenhas

You are absolutely correct. Ministers are the ones to sanction public money and take all credit for any good public-work. Ours is really a flawed system where the real credit goes to someone who doesnt do any work. For example, JRL did a lot of work at Pilikula - starting from its inception to making it an tourism destination. He was thinking day and night about that place for so many years n spent countless hours personally taking interest in it.

Today plenty of opportunities are created around this center. Being a KAS officer, JRL could build an organisation like pilikula, which is even headed by an IFS cadre officer - What a value-addition a government servant could achieve!! Butt all the achievements are hijacked by BJP ministers and even spoiled pilikula by poking dirty nose. Political leadership of BJP in past many years just dumped efforts of JRL and gave him a bad sendoff. This is what happens if one does work sincerely, honestly and with commitment.

JRL cannot do good to Mangalore all alone. MInistries support is needed. After-all it is for the development of Manglore - all must join hands, instead of thinking of credits.
