Mangalore, May 27: In what could have been a major tragedy, a speeding KSRTC bus hit a parked Wagon R, which in turn hit a transform in the heart of the city on Monday May 27.

The accident occured opposite hotel Goldfinch near Jyothi during rush hour in the evening.

The KSRTC bus was plying towards KSRTC bus stand from Puttur. The Wagon R was parked along the road side.

Luckily, no one was hurt as the car was parked and its occupant was away, and there were no pedestrians at the spot.

However, the car and the transformer were severely mangled due to the impact of the accident.

Eyewitnesses said that the bus driver was speeding, even though he was driving in city limits. Parking along the roadside in city was another problem that was also to be blamed, said a few locals who gathered at the spot.

Vehicular movement was also affected due to the accident.

Traffic police rushed to the spot and cleared the vehicles, thus restoring traffic.

A case is yet to be registered.

Just remove the air from all the tyres of vehicles parked in no parking areas. They will be so frustrated and embarresed that they will think 10 times before parking in no parking areas and in front of entry gates.

Reckless driving and overspeeding just to collect extra passengers.

Best solution, the transportation with in the city should be handled by state transportation company or all the private companies should merge into one United Company, operate and share the profit and avoid accidents and spare the lives of common man.

speeding buses should be strictly regulated.i think the parking problem can be sorted out to some extent if customers only sign in front of shopping complexes is removed.instead of "customers only parking" it can be replaced by the sign "paid parking for non customers".let them charge for those who are parking and not customers of the respective complex and instead of hourly basis they can charge per 5minutes x amount so that the person who parked comes back fast.

2 weeks back I drove from Mapusa to Mangalore and back. 90% of the highway between Kundapur to Mangalore is ready but sadly only 25% is operational. All I got was diversions, rash bus drivers and two wheelers driving on the wrong side of the road. Will these idiots ever SUDHRAV………

Jossey Saldanha are you talking about Mapusa ??

    Did you visited Mangalore recently??

Just visit & see last five years how much road development has done? I was surprised to see most of the village's roads are now concrete roads. Only one thing I have noticed during last five years is interior road has become concrete roads. I appreciate that. Hope people won't deny this. Truth is truth. Kalvanakledu edde kalvanaku la uller.

OVER SPEED IN UNMANAGEABLE PLACES AND RAGEFUL DRIVING ATTITUDE ARE THE FUNDAMENTAL REASONS FOR MANY FATAL ACCIDENTS.
ONLY PROVIDENCE CAN SAVE SOME ONLY A HANDFUL OF TIMES.
WE MUST ALL RALISE THAT CIVILIAN ROADS ARE NOT RACE TRACKS AND ALL INCLUDING THE PEDESTRIANS HAVE RIGHT TO COMMUTE.
ALL MUST ASK TWO QUESTIONS TO THEMSELVES:
HOW MUCH LATE IS TOO LATE?
IS REACHING A BIT LATE BETTER THAN KILLING AN INNOCENT ON THE WAY?

The Traffic situation is in an utter mess. There is no one to question them. The bus drivers are arrogant and behave like kings on the road. They race and chase everyone off the road. They expect us to drive on the footh path as if only they have the right to the road. The parking on the road is another menace. When will the traffic department wake up.
There are only 2 signals in Mangalore. All others junctions are in a pathetic state with traffic all around. Lives are being lost every single day wz no one to account for same. It is a shame. There is no law and order in the city. We talk about progress. We have no basic amenities. Even before the rains have started we have power cuts galore.
The bus drivers start honking and continue honking for no reason continuosly even if the roads are empty making it impossible for anyone to live peacefully.
There is no one to address the problem Any govt comes and goes same rubbish goes on. God save us!!! The bus drivers should be booted.

Hi, this happened right in front of our house. Its a common site to see buses speeding here everyday, haphazard parking around the area, and no police man in sight in this area. Its a mad house here everyday during peak hours.
    1. There are no parking signs around this area , but the cars are parked right under the no parking sign, just at the accident spot in front of classique apartments. Cant even call these people as illiterates as these are all well educated people. If anyone tells these people not to park the vehicles under the no parking board, they ask " Do you know who I am?" I really wonder if these people have forgotten who they are and asking us who they are. There is no point complaining the cops as the cops have turned a blind eye.
    2. The bus stop is right there and buses speed and park blocking all the traffic on the road. Its a complete chaos most of the day. No cops here anytime of the day. And bus drivers don't listen to anyone else.
    3. The road widening that was suppose to be done long back is not happening. one of the main roads of Mangalore is so congested, naturally there will accidents like this everyday. The only solution is to do this a one way or get a proper road widening done here. I guess road widening is a better option, even though a lot of building people will be against it. Its the only definite solution and a futuristic approach.
hope our elected representatives do something about this road soon.
