Bangalore: Khadar conducts midnight raid on hospitals, warns of strict action

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (NM)

Bangalore, May 29: Getting down to serious business as the newly-inducted minister of health and family affairs, U T Khadar in a midnight crackdown raided two government hospitals and took the staff to task.

In a surprise move, Khadar raided Jayanagar Government Hospital and Government HSIS Gosha Hospital, Shivajinagar in his private vehicle at around 12.30 am on Wednesday May 29.

During the raid, the minister found that doctors, nurses as well the security guards in both the hospitals were fast asleep. He took them to task and warned of strict action in the future.

"As this is the first time I am conducting raid here, I will be lenient. But next time I will take strict action if I find any laxity or dereliction of duty," he warned.

"Government hospitals are for the poor, hence utmost care must be taken to see that they get all necessary facilities. Work should go on round the clock," he added.

He also spoke to some of the patients.

"The hospitals lack some basic facilities. I will work on it and see that they are well-equipped," he said.

In Shivajinagar hospital, he found that there were no proper records and there too, the security guard was asleep.

On Wednesday morning, Khadar followed up with a meeting with medical officers and discussed his findings. He also directed them to take strict action and ensure that government hospitals function with efficiency round the clock.

Mr. Khader well done.... Try to to carry on raids in every corner of states. There are so many needy people waiting to get support from govt. You started your innings of Health minister like T20 match, good going... If you follow rules and regulation strictly there may lots of pressure from other corner of society. Dont put down your weapon infront of those elements. Plz dont loose interest in helping the common poor people. People kept lots of hope in young MLA's like after going through 5 years anarchy. SO ALL THE BEST MAY GOD BLESS U IN ALL YOUR ENDEVORS.....

Dear when someone is doing good to the nation please encourage them. Ministers wants the seat to make money, fight for that not for this things. Well we want the Minister to visit regularly to the hospitals and if they find anything guilty with people to terminate them from the job. Of course, all the govt. employees are paid from our money. Govt. levy heavy taxes on people secondly if anything to be done from Govt. firms we have to pay bribe. Dear understand the situation and try to make him to visit regularly. Keep your demands what you want in hospitals.

our biological clock is set to sleep in the night. patients may not come or complain all the night. The important thing is when a patient comes or feels a problem doctor or nurse should be there. it is okay if he/she sleep rest of the time. it can be more harmful to a patient if a doctor or nurse make a serious life threatening mistake caused by drowsiness or caused by deprivation of sleep.

Raid is good, keeping a eye on the staff is very good. But one thing I dont understand is, is it necessary for a doc to be awake whole night? Has any patient been sent back at night with a reason, doc is sleeping? Was the doc sleeping in his house? If not I dont think he has failed in his duty... please think about it.

As an MLA for several years why didn't Khadar conduct any raids on hospitals or other public institutions that do not offer decent services to the citizens??

Is it necessary that he had to become a minister to show off his power??

As an MLA, how much was he concerned about the pathetic conditions of the public hospitals right under his nose in coastal region (which DW readers has voiced already)??

He... He.... Generally everybody sleep at Night. Only those Ministers who have "Kalla" experience won't sleep at night. If they don't have such experience then they also feel sleepy. Those who have shift duty may not be able to sleep at Day due to marriage functions etc should sleep well.

One Driver told me once that "While driving if I feel sleepy at Day or Night I will keep my vehicle at roadside and take a good sleep. I never listen to my boss or even YAMA to drive if I feel sleepy". I really appreciate him.

One thing everybody please keep in mind that SLEEP (Nidradevi) never works as per the Law books or as per any ones order. She is the boss of her own

If u understand the importance and responsibility of the night watchman's duty then u can understand the night shift doctors and nurses jobs and responsibilities in hospitals. upon reading your comment I'm remembering a joke...One fine morning a night duty watchman of a house pleading his owner to cancel his flight as he dreamt last night the flight was crashed and all are perished so please postpone your jouney. The wife feared and pleaded her husband to cancel the flight and he did so. The dream turned into reality and no one survived in the crash thus he saved his owner's life. The owner is very much pleased for saving his life and rewarded the watchman and dismissed him from the service without any delay. Guess why?... The answer u will find in your comments.

    Nothing works without supervision.
Even Ministers performance should also be supervised by C.M., Party Chief, Lokayukhta and people.

It is the right process. Corporates work and progress this way, then why not Government?

This is really good move by the honorable minister...seeing is believing. However, one tip here. There may be thousands of hospitals in Karnataka. He may not be able to make surprise visit to all. It is an open secret that government hospitals are in very bad shape. A few surprise visits with a clear strategy of knowing shortcomings are needed. This phase should be complimented with changes that should be implimented throughout all the hospitals in the state. Another round of surprise visits must follow to check the implimentation. Last but not least, please oh please, increase the salary of doctors and nurses at par with military personnel and see the changes for yourself. But the billion dollar question is...do we have enough in our coffers for the same?

    Sir,
I think the Health Minister means business from what he has done right now.
If he was the H\Minister in the last Govt. he would have seen that in Mysore too, the Govt. hospitals were well equipped and the staff attended those Dengue cases properly.
I think, this will continue in the coming years too and I visualise clean\efficient Govt. Hospitals\Staff in Karnataka.
It is such a encouraging sign that the Minister himself\personally supervising to know the ground reality in these earlier neglected hospitals.
Public should support\send suggestions to this Minister for his look into.. and action for improvement of these generally neglected hospitals and patients.
At the same time Minister should install a "complaint" contact line either direct to him or a desk where it will be attended and checked immediately.
If it is done, there will be good attendance of the staff and also good treatment of the patients...
Just sack the staff who are not doing their duty...
What a way to start Khader Saab...!! Hats off to you.
It's the BEGINNING OF HOPE FOR THE POOR SICK.

Only once he will raid. Then? Who will follow up? same Govt.officials?
Don't be so happy about this gimmick. What good it will bring to the hospital? He should have tried through proper channel. I remember once Nalin Kumar Kateel tried this gimmick....sorry to say...its only for publicity. Those who sincerely do will do through legal channels. Its really funny when he say he is lenient as its for the first time...Guilty should have been punished and taken action on them.
I am not at all impressed.

    Safwan..
No need to blame all hospital staffs. They know there duty better. Otherwise most of them landed in 'morgues'. While we visit hospitals..comes to know how efficiently they work. People enter in pain and comes out with cheerful mood..giving them a 'new life'. Can it possible to clean and sweep at night..disturbing all of them.. Need a silence atmosphere at night..to have a 'good sleep' for patients..who are disturbed at day time..!! Just check most of even 'lights' are went-off and docotors/nurses are looking after them if 'patient' is too serious..!! They know very well who is needed what at right time. It's fact..they take rest (all of them) at night..even keeping Main Door closed..only open for emergency cases..!! Let him do his duty..but not at night time..!! Actually he his afraid to visit at day-time due to heavy rush..!!

Did you see above photos?Trash bins are full. Then one can imagine what will be the condition of sanitary wares, toilets etc. Our govt hospitals are notorious for poor hygienic condition. Nobody can have sound sleep in such atmosphere .Is he visited during day or night is not an issue here. Yesterday CM Siddu warns all State’s bureaucrats to deliver services to the people. Today Kadar conducts midnight raid on hospital. All these are just to warn them. I also suggest Mr. Kadar to have some sound sleep during night to get refreshed and start fresh raid during day also.
