Mangalore, May 29: Akram Hasan, state secretary, SDPI on Wednesday May 29 urged health minister U T Khadar to upgrade the primary health centre at Ullal which consists of five beds at present, and increase it to 50-bed government aided district hospital.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Akram said,“Ullal constituency consists of more than two lac citizens. A 50-bed government hospital is a minimum requirement today to meet the needs of the people”.

Akram also openly criticized the newly-inducted state minister for fisheries K Abhaychandra Jain for expressing his desire to relinquish the portfolio on religious grounds and said that he should not bow down to pressure from any community.

"India is a secular country. It is the duty of the minister to serve the society without any discrimination. Fish is a part and parcel of the life of Karavali people. It is not correct to relinquish the post due to pressure from any community.

Jain had reportedly said that as he is a Jain and a vegetarian, and because Jainism is against all forms of killing, he wants to give up the fisheries department on the request of his community leaders and supporters. However, he later retracted and said that he was not a 'sanyasi' to do so and insisted that he had been misquoted by the media.

"If he is unhappy with the post, the minister should have brought it to the notice of the chief minister or the high command rather than making such statements in the public," Akram added, urging the chief minister not to accept Jain's demand.

He also referred to the recent allegation against SDPI that it had printed handbills against U T Khadar in the Ullal constituency during elections and said, “Fingers were pointed at SDPI for spreading handbills which termed Khadar's participation in ‘Astamangala Puja’ as 'anti-Muslim'. SDPI clearly denies these allegations. Our purpose is to build communal harmony. We have no intentions whatsoever of creating mistrust. Without proof, no one has the right to make such allegations.”

Abubakkar Kulai, district president of SDPI condemned the recent attack on the party office at B C Road and warned that if such incidents repeat, SDPI will launch a state-wide agitation.

Akbar Ali, chief secretary, Nawaaz Ullal, district committee member were present at the press meet.

When BJP was formed it was struggling very badly. Check the statistics my friends. SDPI has still better performed in elections all over India. People who do not want new parties come and work are the one who are salve of BJP and Congress. These salves just talk good about their masters. If u dont want changes close your door and sit at home then cribing about secularism. People who say SDPI is not secular go find how secular opposition and ruling parties are. India is a secular country and SDPI is as secular as oppostion and ruling parties are.

    Dear abdul
You are right in saying " sdpi means power to people". But the power connection is in the hands of voters.

Voters have refused to give power to sdpi. Our Karnataka voters have voted only secular parties in 2013 state election.

Although I do not support the ideology of SDPI (sugar coated tablets), I agree with two of the points made in their statement. Ullal needs a 50 Bed Government Hospital which is a need of every assembly segment. Second thing about minister Jain. He could have discussed his issue first with the CM before making it public.

Demand is genuine, but who is advising at what time and what hour is a question mark.

Appreciate all the voters irrespective of religion, for cornering the communal minded parties including SDPI.

Not a matter as if a suggestions from whomsoever. What’s wrong? SDPI demands rulers for a Govt. Hospital in Ullal? What you think, Congress / UTK must & should help to their party members only. UTK or Congress will not do anything for the civilians of Karnataka those among the activists of RSS, BJP, JD, CPI, SDPI parties? Is the Karnataka peoples have chosen Congress to develop only for Congress activists? Will they (Cong) not listen anything from other Parties requests?

..Mahatma Gandhi, categorically told after independence congress party should be dissolved otherwise party will get undue advantage of being sole political party of freedom struggle..But, Nehru dynasty continued the Congress name, who ever (former freedom fighters such as subhashchandra bose's Forward block etc,.) formed parties not able withstand since congress name was synonymous with freedom struggle..other freedom fighter & parties totally lost ground..

Whatever may be the back ground of this SDPI Group, but their demand for 50 beds hospital is worth noting. They knew very well that if they start demanding now, sanction of funds will come after one year and foundation stone will be laid after 3 or 4 years to include in the next election manifest or achievement. Two lakhs of population in their region still they have only 5 beds hospital? What Khader Bhai was sleeping for last 10 years?

Now people are aware of their rights and demanding justice from Governments like they demand quality from product & fair price from manufacturers!
But stupid people still justify inaction or wrong action of their favorite party's Govt!
People are also aware, these small parties unable to form Govt. on their own are of no use simply votes gets divided and make scope for horse trading & corruption in Govt. formation.
They better merge with bigger parties and accept their principles and discipline!

AKRAM and Aboobeckker please don't lie that SDPI is a saint with regarding to handbills against UT Khader. In fact, SDPI used social media to tarnish UT Khader's image (Politically and religiously)Accept the political strategy of SDPI backfired when SDPI resorted negative canvas against UT Khader. In the process majority Community voters supported UT Khader en mass!!!His overwhelming majority of votes in fact stunned by BJP and Khader/Congress itself.

    SHIHAB....

I was astonished to see SDPI made available clipping of UT Khader who was participated in majority community's religious function as an people representative in social media. One FACE BOOK account is dedicated to it.They targeted mainly UT Khader with misguiding religious rite clipping, when he won, they appreciated him like their own comrade in the same FB account!!!!!

What is the SDPI's local electoral issue? Is it state of the art Hospital? Why SDPI mum when their own BJP govt in the state?SDPI's main political gimmick is to build bus stand to get cheap publicity. There are voters in Ullala who may demand basic amenities like water, road, medical felicities etc and I think SDPI has no moral right to advise Khader. This Press meet just a CALL ATTENTION MOTION nothing else.

SDPI lost deposit and in fact came fourth even after having majority of voters were minority communities .
