Mangalore, Jan 4: After a gap of two years, the prestigious Veerarani Abbakka Utsav, commemorating the exploits and contributions of Queen Abbakka, the first woman freedom fighter of India, will be observed at Tokkottu on Sunday under the aegis of Veerarani Abbakka Utsav Samiti.

Speaking at a press conference in City on Tuesday, samiti general secretary Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, said that the utsav will begin in the late Chandappa Ullal Memorial Auditorium, Tokkottu at 9.30 am in the presence of Moodbidri Bhattaraka Charukeerti Panditacharyavarya Mahaswami.
 
MP D V Sadananda Gowda will preside. Tourism Minister D T Jayakumar, MLC Blasius D'Souza, mayor K Ashraf, Tulu Sahitya Academy president M K Seetaram Kulal, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Kendra Beary Parishat president M B Abdul Rahiman will be present.
 
Humorists' conference: The utsav will also feature a humorists' conference, headed by Bhuvaneshwari Hegde at 3 pm. Poetesses Amrutha Deekaiah, D B Rajia, Catherine Rodrigues, Arati Patrame, Soudamini Shetty, V K Sandhya, Malati Shetty Manur, Sulochana Pachchinadka, Jyoti Rai Mulkaje, Priya Harish, Manjula G and Siddakatte Mallika will present their poems, followed by the singing of the same by Tonse Pushkal Kumar and Malini K Prasad.
