Bangalore : Heavy pre-monsoon showers disrupt life

Bangalore, Jun 1 (DHNS): Heavy showers on Friday evening left many areas in the City high and dry and the BBMP control room flooded with numerous complaints. The City received an estimated 72 mm rain.

At least six trees were reported to have fallen due to the rains in Hosakerehalli, Ulsoor, Rajajinagar, Jayanagar, Hanumanth Nagar, Kathriguppe, off Big Bazaar, and near Urvashi cinema. Cases of waterlogging were reported from many areas. The worst affected were Richmond Road, Double Road, Rajajinagar, Marathahalli and Malleswaram, JC Road, HSR Layout, Sudhamanagar.

Water from stormwater drains overflowed into houses at Roshan Nagar, Yelachenahalli off  Kanakapura Road, forcing people to stay outdoors. The area around Garuda Mall, Race Course Road, Cauvery Bhavan, JP Nagar, Mysore Road and Bapuji Nagar were flooded. Major traffic snarls were reported from Banaswadi, MG Road, JP Nagar, off Rangashankara, and Kodichikkanahalli.

While the newly appointed BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana, who took charge of Friday, monitored the situation and tried to keep things under control by getting regular updates from all the control rooms and joint commissioners.

BBMP gangmen were immediately put on the job of clearing branches of the uprooted trees and scooping water out the flooded houses.

The Met department has confirmed that the monsoons will hit the State by June 5 or even earlier and the heavy pre-monsoon showers like the one on Friday will occur fairly regularly prior to it.

The heavy showers on Friday signalled the fast arrival of monsoon to the state. Similar heavy isolated spells were also witnessed in the south and coastal region of the state. The state has been witnessing good rains, heavy to moderate, for the past few days.

There are four good lakes in and around Bangalore, which supplies water to City. They have sufficient water and BBMP is successful in handling them. But those contributes only 25% of requirement. So remaining 75% water Govt should arrange, which they failed in. See you can do something..

    Mr. Perinje, Yanbu
This year or in the years to follow, there is no need to mention the names of the places where it rained - It will rain everywhere in Karnataka- so there is no need to mention names of particular places, no need to improve ones GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (you have great general knowledge unlike many here)
One has to just say "It Rained", that covers the entire Karnataka!!!
Such good things happen only when a good Government is in charge of the State. Everything falls in place.
But we have still some problems where the previous Govt.'s people are still in-charge. Like the BBMP.
One good rain, water logging due to Garbage dumped in the gutters\sewers by them just to hide it from public. Can you believe - Roads just caving in and many roads there is no surface left. Gutter covers, most probably sold off by BBMP workers and vehicle tyres getting caught in them.
Just imagine the amount fleeced by these BJP BBMP.
Congress Govt. has an uphill task to put everything in order from the mess BJP Govt. created.
People need to be co-operative with the new Govt. this rainy season.
And still BJPians trying to educate others!!!!!
