Udupi: UPCL-Mangalore port goods train derails at Nandikur

Udupi, Jun 1: A Konkan Railway goods train was derailed reportedly due to the driver's negligence at Nandikur, Padubidri here on Saturday June 1.

The train was moving towards New Mangalore Port after depositing coal at UPCL power plant.

Two engine bogies of goods train WD4-12045 derailed at about 200 metre north of Nandikur railway station. As the speed was less, the train moved forward about 50 metres before coming to a stop.

The railway track was damaged due to the incident. As the train derailed during peak hours, several trains moving on this route were affected.

Southern railway Mangalore unit accident relief team arrived at the spot and undertook repair works. Hundreds of workers assisted in moving the good train off the tracks.

The entire distance between UPCL and New Mangalore Port is connected through railway line. It is said that the train driver's negligence had caused the accident, as he moved the train over the loopline. As the train was moving slowly, it stopped on the loopline itself.
