Proposal put forth to make Udupi a heritage town - Sorake

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, June 1: Vinay Kumar Sorake, urban development minister and minister-in-charge of Udupi districts called for a district-level KDP meeting at the zilla panchayat office here on Saturday July 1.

Speaking to press persons after the meeting, the minister said that a proposal has been forwarded to the government to consider Udupi a heritage town.

“In the developmental review meeting, the most prominent issue discussed was drinking water shortage in summer and sea erosion in monsoon. Rs 30 lac each will be given to the MLAs for a project to seek permanent solution for water crisis in their constituencies. Also, the government has allocated money to distribute tanker water to 57 villages. The water from Swarna river is not enough for summer, so supply water will be availed from Varahi River," he said.

"As water from borewells and wells is not sufficient for the district, multi-village drinking water project will be brought into effect. Under this, 28 projects are pending approval from the central government. Jayaram Ramesh, union minister, will come to the state on July 6 this year and the proposal will be put forward for approval,” he added.

Sorake said that to prevent sea erosion, the state has forwarded a Rs 10 crore proposal to the central government.

“At present, the underground drainage system has been implemented only in the CMC and town municipality areas. It will be extended to Manipal and so the project is ready,” added Sorake.

“The dumping yard should be used wisely under waste management scheme and energy generation will be planned. A proposal has been forwarded and state level officials will give the appropriate suggestions.

"In Sakala, Udupi is in first position till May; rest of the applications will be sorted out soon,” he said.

“Ration card system is in a mess from five years and 26,000 cards have been cancelled. After printing, APL has become BPL and vice versa. Now, we cannot solve the issue at the district-level so food minister will be informed; along with MP and MLA, we will try to find a solution,” added Sorake.

“Vasathi Yogana is also in a big mess with around 10,000 to 20,000 houses being allotted to the poor from the government, but with no beneficiaries. So, we need to work together and go to the government through the chief minister. Kundapur mini Vidhana Soudha will be completed soon. By July end, the work will be finished," he said.

"K J George, home minister of Karnataka, will be visiting the district on June 11, and with the collaboration of the police department a new and effective policy will be formed to tackle the Naxal problem,” he informed.

It imperative of Mr. Vinay Sorake to show some action as the Minister. The people of Udupi District have reposed their faith in Congress and it is their job to keep the public informed about the work being considered for. However, during his tenure as MP people have expected some work but unfortunately nothing has come out. Please note that people are now educated and know in and out of government functioning. Beware and show some constructive action. As far as Heritage tag is concerned it seems that this is nothing but to corner Builders lobby which is active in our twin districts.

Most of the heritage is located in Old Udupi, it is good idea to that area as "HERITAGE".
The Development can be spread-out to other areas, by planning well, to cater for many years -(broad roads\sewage\drainage system\water distribution system etc).
By segregating the two, it will be easier for tourist movement and lessen the traffic\fumes besides other problems.

Regarding houses for the low income group or people who were displaced due to natural calamities etc. - our champion C.T.Ravi - did he not do anything at all? Just before the election he made a big hue and cry about it - with him getting quarterly reports on this project?
It is better to check if many of such houses are in benami names.
Anything was possible during BJP rule....

I have one humble request to Minister Sorake and MP Mr. Oscar Fernandes. Kindly put up a proposal to rename Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada Districts as Mangalore and Karwar Districts respectively as it will create better nomenclature.

Good to see Vinay kumar sorake is into the action. Another point to be noted here is that he has taken into consideration even other party MLA's. We can see Sunil Kumar and Haladi in the photos. Sorake is a visionary politician and this is a good sign that all party MLA's are working together for the betterment of our district which was lacking from many years in Udupi.

Congress has been making this proposal from last 60 years and never materialized. Udupi city infrastructure and fundamental facilities got facelift under the rule of Late VSA and former MLA Mr. Bhat.

This meeting is being held in Udupi and Udupi MLA is absconding. He needed one post, that is why he contested election. He will not care for people and their problems. People of udupi should lodge a missing complaint like Bidar people did. He is not to be seen after May 8th first half..

Does it make any difference in Udupi? Rather they will not allow demolishing old building to construct new one in the name of “Heritage Title” Drinking water and Waste Management Problem is genuine one but instead of thinking in other way around, MLAs’ are now starting implementation of Tanker Water Facilities. These Tankers are put in to service none other than by MLAs', Corporator, Mayors, etc like we see in Vashi and Virar region at Maharashtra. Why not metro between Kundapur and Mangalore? What about completion of NH66 four lane roads? Why not permanent solutions for sea erosion by properly erecting break water and rock revetment wherever it is necessary?
