Bangalore: Govt to implement two key reports for benefit of minorities

Bangalore, Jun 3: The Congress government in Karnataka today said recommendations of two key reports would be implemented for the benefit of minorities, especially Muslims.

The recommendations made in the Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission and Justice Sachar Committee report for the development and uplift of religious minorities, especially Muslim minorities who continue to be severely disadvantaged, will be implemented in letter and spirit.

"This will include promoting and monitoring their access to schools, higher education and health services, encouraging their participation in MGNREGS, and facilitating their access to bank credit", Governor H R Bhardwaj said in his customary address to joint session of the legisalture.

Meanwhile, he expressed the government's commitment to provide safe drinking water to rural areas.

There are 5,875 villages where water is affected by fluoride, arsenic and nitrate besides other chemical contaminations.

"The model 'Pure Drinking Water Unit', as installed in Gadag (a district in the State), will be provided in all problematic villages. 1000 such units will be commissioned by 1st January, 2014", he said.

An Agriculture Price Commission would be set up to ensure that farmers get a remunerative price for their produce, he said. "The expertise of international institutions will be harnessed to create an extension service in the private sector which will provide a good entrepreneurial opening for agriculture graduates, besides enhancing farm productivity".

In order to promote exports and value addition, the government proposes to link horticulture farmers to agri-business in the country and abroad by setting up high-tech clusters. "The entire set-up of horticulture marketing would be revamped to make it more responsive to the needs of the farmer", Bhardwaj added.

Mr.Siddaramiah, benefits under quota systems for Muslims should be increased to same percentage as for OBCs, SC/STs, and Dalits. The OBCs, SC/STs and Dalits get up to 45% and Muslims get only 40%.

    Dinesh,
I empathize with you in this regard, especially after what you have mentioned. One reason why our public sector is still assembling imported machinery is because these organizations hire people based on their background. SOme people are just lucky right- what say??!!.

Instead of hiring people based on merit, they hire people based on their social background and the end result is instead of developing technology these companies sit and repair machines....funny!!! To be honest this will do no good to our nation in the long run. Its a pity that meritorious students are left in the lurch. With this regressive policy India is going no where!!

India a superpower with "reservation" is a joke!!!

Having been in the middle east for several decades, i have seen how the "general class" have succeeded despite having no back up from anyone. Its all because they came up the hard way.

These people are not lethargic, easy going or laid back. They have to slog to earn their daily bread and that's what brings the best out of them.

Karnataka started rice supply on trial basis already and then postponed it. That is why I told you to read VJ, Friday edition.

I do not heard any complaint about rice in MP. That is why mentioned. Have you seen stones in MP rice?

In Bangalore, we buy 25 Kg rice bag at Rs 40/Kg. Honestly We don't find any stones. I was in Japan for some time 4 years back. We used to buy Indian Rice. We never found stones.

So in KSA, you might be buying Pakistan rice, please change the shop and see. Or pay some more bucks to get quality rice. Health is wealth.

In MP, Rice supplied at Rs 2/Kg do not have stones. Let me know if you find any.

But Rice supplied at 1 Rs/Kg in Karnataka has stones. I have not seen, but famous Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka reported this on last Friday.

What is the point of giving rice at low price if it is not consumable? Will people still buy it? Isn't it just for name sake? Why should this govt play with poor people???

In shop rice costs 35-40 Rs. If Govt supplies quality rice at 3 Rs/Kg that is good enough, it is less than 10 percent of actual cost.

Regarding your last two points, I do not need to visit any rural or backward area. I am from Rural and very poor family background. I walked to schools in barefoot most of the times. I received scholarships from Byndoor to Kudroli Sangha and also from Mumbai.

I received 40,000 Rs loan at 2% interest from BACKWARD CLASS DEVELOPMENT DEPT, Brahmagiri, Udupi for my BE Studies. As this amount was not sufficient, I had to take loan at Vijaya Bank, at later stage. What hurts me is, this scheme was started by Late Devraj Urs long back and the amount was not increased even after decades. You might be aware of it, previous Govt increased this amount to 1 Lakh.

For congress, apart from giving bonanza to minorities and SC/ST, they don't know the plight of other communities. It is just for their vote bank and nothing else. There are many upper caste students, who terminate their education due to financial problems. For SC/ST, no admission fee, no college fee, no exam fee, PLUS THEY GET SCHOLARSHIP OF RS 15,000 RS per year during BE COURSE. Do you know how this people utilize this scholarship? Better I don't mention it here..... For them JOBS ARE FIXED in HAL, BHEL, BEL, HMT, ISRO Bangalore. They just need to pass the degrees. That is the reason these companies still ASSEMBLE THE IMPORTED MACHINES from foreign companies.

Reservation benefits are given to S.C. S.T. O.B.C's there was no strong opposition!
What is the harm in extending the same to backward Muslims as well?
    Why opposition? Discrimination?

RIGHT WAY is, all caste wise reservation system should be ABOLISHED and only ECONOMIC CRITERIA based reservation system should be implemented which is prevailing and successful in many Countries!
Govt has BPL list, what is the difficulty for implimentation?

How to abolish caste system Valerian Sir? Government is not serious. Every form of the government it is mandatory to mention Caste / religion. Even so called upper class people try to obtain a backward caste certificate. All groups are fighting to get themselves included in the backward list. When there are 100s of 1000s people would like to call themselves backward (happily) so how the country will go forward? In my opinion there should be only two classes in the society privileged & under-privileged, and it should not be based on caste or religion.

    Dear ESKEY,
You are 100% right, it is really very difficult to withdraw what is advanced.
If more castes are included in B.C. reservation will be diluted!
But again it is not solution but cheating!
Backward classes were really very poor and govt. had no proper census, so reservation benefit was initially offered for 10 years on castes lines.

But now more than 40 years passed, Govt. has almost genuine BPL data. Strong will power and peoples support is needed to root out this menace and re-introduce ECONOMIC CRITERIA based reservation, which will surely be fair to all.

Why do we talk about minorities, casts and religion when we are citizens of one county, India? Why don't we have one law, one policy and equal opportunity for everyone? Had all (specially these politicians and rich) paid their entitled share of taxes, definitely we would have not seen poor and backward people around us.

Dear CM, another unexpected controversy again. This country rejected BJP (and earlier Jana Sangha) till 1990s. But today BJP has grown to this extent just because of Cong's vote bank politics (Sha Bano & other incidents) Remember, there are downtrodden in every community. Please look everyone equally to keep out communal forces. The same advise to BJP also, for the benefit of country, my country, our country...!

I know Mr Siddu,CM of Karnataka will do justice/Commit to the PRINCIPLE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE.Justice Rangnath Mishra and Justice Sacahr commission pointed out that Muslims far below than SC/ST in terms of education, employment and other core services which are available for public.Yet,minorities and Muslims in particular come forward to attain highest education in recent times. The situation of now is entirely different that of ten years before when we observe education of minorities and particularly Muslim females. Our participation in political representation might be 4-5% and in civil highest cadre may be below 2%!So these disparity need to be rectified and for that education is key and govt should make available certain sops to the minority students as per the two commission report.

It is agreed that muslims are left behind in all fields especially in education. But they have to blame themselves as they hav never given priority to education...Religion is on the top of their mind. There are extremely poor people in other communities as well...but rightly they have given priority to education. At the end of the day Education is the great equalizer. It is futile excersize by the govt.to provide sops to minorities. We have seen it with hindu backward communities. It didnt work even after so many years & so many crores.
