Bantwal, Jun 4: Eshwar Naik (26), son of Aithappa Naik from Tachchame village in Peruvai near Vittal in the taluk lost his life on the night of Sunday June 2, after slipping and falling into the well of a neighbor.

Eshwar’s neighbor, Rajesh Maniyani, was on a visit to Uppinangady that day. Reportedly, Rajesh contacted Eshwar over phone and requested him to lift the pump set out of his well and keep it aside. Following this request, Eshwar approached the well, and placed his leg on the wooden log laid across the well with the aim of getting into the well and bringing the pump out. He failed to notice that the log was broken. As soon as Eshwar put his wait on the log, it snapped, and Eshwar drowned in the well.

Efforts of the locals to find his body went in vain. Later, fire brigade in Puttur was sounded. The fire personnel succeeded in bringing the body out. A case was registered in this connection at Vittal police station.
