By-polls : Lalu candidate wins, setback for Nitish Kumar

Patna, Jun 5 (Agencies) : In a big jolt to Nitish Kumar, JD (U) candidate PK Shahi today faced defeat at the hands of opposition RJD candidate Prabhunath Singh as votes were counted for the by-election to the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat.

Meanwhile, grabbing the opportunity to hit Nitish Kumar, RJD leader Lalu Prasad said ‘the misrule' of JD(U) has led to ruling party’s defeat.

"It will not be a defeat of Shahi but a defeat of Nitish Kumar in Maharajganj," Lalu said.

Voting took place on Sunday with 47 percent polling. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of RJD MP Umashankar Singh.

The JD-U was backed by the BJP, while the Lalu Prasad-led RJD had the support of the Lok Janshakti Party. The Congress had fielded Jitendra Swami.

What really is a worrisome trend is the drubbing of so called national parties in many states by regional parties. The problem with this trend is that the regional parties do not have a vision beyond their own regional issues and hardly rise above petty politics. For eg, what vision does DMK, AIADMK, RJD, Trinamool Congress, Left or for that matter KJP has for India? All will be blinking if someone were to ask this question to these regional leaders..In my opinion both Congress and BJP have alienated themselves from the electorate with their own misdoings. BJP is a nationalistic party but unfortunately, the nationalistic theme does not seem to strike a chord with today's youth where geographic boundaries and national identity has taken a beating due to onslaught of globalization. Congress is happy doing lip service and scaring the people with BJP bogey man and that BJP is communal, all the while doing scams in which it is impossible to count zeros as well. For eg. 2G scam. Best part is congress has the vocabulary and the ability to do some funky mathematics to say that the loss was notional and there was no scam in the first place. And if someone is really embarrassing them, they make sure that CBI will hunt their detractors.. Best example...Jagan Reddy, Yeddyurappa, SP, BSP etc...

Nitish's strategy failed this time. Nitish is called "Super-Editor" of all the News papers of Bihar, because he is well known for arm-twisting the Press and forcing them to write articles & publish surrogate Advertisements in favour of his govt during election to garner votes. He used to stop Govt-Advertisements to such News papers who do not toe his line. But this time it did not work out.

Lallu should be happy to retain this seat with RJD since they held this seat earlier. Where is the Congress there? Nobody talking about Congress in Bihar or UP? Lalluji, no need to celebrate the victory, it’s just a matter of time to go to Bihar State Jail on fodder scam conviction.

Relax Praveen, BJP and JDS is having tie up in Bihar so they can’t place Candidate against each other. Rather, better not to put candidate then facing humiliation like Congress suffered

More than Lalu, BJP is happy with this verdict, because they worked very had to defeat JDU candidate to contain Nitish Kumar forward march for next LS election. Nitesh Kumar now bite his nails and think which way to go... Trust BJP and compromise his idiology ? or align with big brother Congress and dictate terms like Mamta did .. I think best way he will project himself as PM candidate and then all Biharis will vote him thinking that our Bihari will be PM and post election bargain with best available party...

Bihar is dubbed as illiterate / poor people state but they have exhibited right sense and perfect in teaching Nitish a lesson for pro-Congress rhetoric. Nitish wants money at cost of BJP, an alliance approved by people. No one should go against public mandate. Nitish end is near if he does not mend his stances.

Nitish Kumar has paid the price for giving indication of coming closer to UPA. This is clear signal for 2014 election. At one side, Modi swept the Gujarath bypolls (Winning 4 MLAs and 2 MPs, previously held by Congress).
This is clear indication - downfall of congress / UPA started now !
