Kasargod, Jun 11: Relating to the recent theft of some files from the taluk office here, the policemen of the District Crime Intelligence Bureau have arrested three persons. They have been identified as Mohammed Shaffi (37) and Balakrishnan (29) from Kolattur, and Muhammed Rafiq (24) from Maruttadka Chedikundu in Kudamguyi. The policemen said that Balakrishnan is a real estate businessman.

They have been charged with illegal transgression and stealing of government files. It is learnt that offences under these section of the law carry a sentence of up to three years.

Some files had been stolen from the table of an employee in the taluk office on the afternoon of May 5. Upper division clerk of the office, K Shashikala, had complained to the town police station, alleging that these files had gone missing between the time she went out to have lunch, and returning to her table.

The files stolen are said to be very important. Theft of files at a time when allegations about annexing hundreds of acres of land standing in the name of tribals in the district are surfacing, has given rise to speculations.
