Bangalore, Jun 11: Prof S C Sharma, deputy chairman of Karnataka State Higher Education Council, has resigned from his post. He was facing the allegation of making illegal appointments. In his resignation letter dated June 10 addressed to higher education minister, R V Deshpande, and principal secretary, Rajneesh Goel, Prof Sharma said he has taken this decision, hurt by the unfounded allegations being levelled against him.

Surprisingly, executive director of the council, Prof K M Kaveriappa, too has resigned from his post.

Prof Sharma, who had retired as the vice chancellor of Tumkur University last month, had succeeded in getting his term at the council extended till October 2015. His earlier term was to expire in February 2013. “False allegations have been made against me. I am hurt deeply because of them. As the vice chancellor of Tumkur University and deputy chairman of the higher education council, I have considerable achievements to my credit. I have never chased positions of power, and have enclosed a list of my achievements along with my resignation letter. I and Kaveriappa had always worked as a team, and fed up over the allegations made against me, he too has resigned from his position,” Prof Sharma said.
