Kundapur: Silver, cash stolen from Maravanthe Temple

Kundapur, Jun 11: Unknown thieves entered Varaha Temple at Maraswamy, Maravanthe in the taluk on the night of Sunday June 9 and took away silver sheets and cash valued at about Rs 2.05 lac.

The miscreants broke open the door located in the eastern direction of the temple, before forcefully opening the southern entry point to Teerthamantapa inside the temple. They then peeled out the silver sheets covering the wooden doors  of the sanctum sanctorum there, weighing about seven kg, before making good their escape.

Temple managing committee president, K Ramachandra Hebbar, in a complaint filed with the police station, said that the thieves had also taken Rs 5,000 cash kept inside the office of the temple with them, in addition to the silver sheets.

Kundapur deputy superintendent of police, Yashoda Vantagodi, circle inspector, Manjunath Kavari, Gangolli station house officer, Sampath Kumar, and other officials visited the spot and conducted inspection. A sniffer dog pressed into service to provide the lead could not be of any help, as it lost trail after reaching a spot little away from the temple.
