Bangalore: Smile please! Khadar introduces free dentures scheme for senior citizens

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jun 12: State health minister, U T Khadar, seems to be on an announcement spree of beneficial measures to improve the quality of life of the individuals. After giving rise to widespread debate by announcing ban on use of gutkha and paan masala in the state recently, Khadar has announced a scheme of providing free dentures to toothless senior citizens free of cost.

“Senior citizens without teeth are unable to properly relish the things of their choice. They also hesitate to let out a hearty laugh. Therefore, the government will provide dentures to edentulous people over 65 years of age free of cost. This measure is taken to ensure that toothless people also are able to enjoy their food. This is a little effort from the government’s side to make the life a little more comfortable amidst their advancing age,” Khadar clarified.

The minister noted that most of the senior citizens suffer from dental problems, and because of financial problems, they are unable to invest on dentures. The health department will soon come out with a scheme to supply dentures free of cost to these people,” he said.

Nagu-Magu: Khadar further said that the health department will soon implement a scheme titled ‘Nagu-Magu’, under which the postpartum women are taken to their homes at government expense, safely and free of cost.

He also wanted the health department to make an entry about the birth of every child in the computers, and send reminders through cell phone messages to mothers when the due dates of vaccinations draw nearer.

He also explained about an ambitious programme of the health department,’104’, under which people living in remote hamlets or hilly terrain can get information about health and preliminary treatments for ailments by calling the toll-free number, ‘104’. This number can also be used to file complaints about the improper maintenance and services at primary health centres, he added.

To all those who comment without knowing how exactly the dentures are made please remember there are no companies providing dentures of different size.for each single patient it is different and made by the dentist/prosthodontist.its not that we just pick from many different sizes and use it.for each individual denture has to be made after a series of clinical steps by the doctor and fabricated in the lab
Instead of doubting if there is some scam behind it kindly appreciate the new proposal by the health minister.

I commend the good intentions but as a taxpaying middle-class, it makes me wonder who bankrolls such projects ? Despite the huge IT presence and its tax input, Karnataka has consistently run a budget deficit. Our state highways, and our state run schools are among the worst in the country ( and i'm not blaming a single party, the infrastructure has been in ruins for ages now ). And then our governments go on and announce 1 Rs rice, free dental health, foregoing thousands of farm loans etc. Who pays for all this ? Us poor middleclass taxpayers ofcourse !

Kaderbhai this is a very good move. Keep going on. My only apprehension is the suppliers of dentures should not pocket money by supplying cheap dentures at exorbitant cost to the exchequer. Proper checks should be adopted to curb nexus between suppliers and the officials concerned to weed out this menace. People have started appreciating the sincerity of the concern the present government has for the poor and needy.

This scheme is essential when you see the other schemes in the pipeline. When you plan to give rice for 1 rupee then you must get free teeth to relish it.

This country must stop announcing schemes. We need a health policy that clearly spells what we are entitled for like free treatment for all ailments, standards to be maintained at the public hospitals and grievance redressal mechanisms etc.

When governemnt will clear Right Health Bill?

What happens to the earlier schemes?

Instead of giving free things, like all politicians, UTK should have raised the std of govt hospitals. All hospitals are in pathetic condition. From sweeper to Doctors all are corrupt. Not only corrupt they don't give proper service. Govt hospitals' staff should not have the impression of that they are giving free service. Because they were paid as good as Pvt hospitals. Only Patients should feel that it is free.
