Mangalore: Gold hidden in thermos flask - Man from Kasargod caught at Airport

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 13: A person named Shabab Mattummal (24) from Kolavayal in Kasargod, was arrested on his arrival from Dubai at the local airport on the evening of Monday June 10.

He was found to be smuggling 157 grams of gold ornaments worth about Rs 3.37 lac from the Gulf.

Mattummal arrived at the airport here through the Air India Express flight from Dubai at 6.30 pm on Monday.

The customs officials, during the routine check, came across this incident. A total of nine golden chains, eight of which were plain, and other, stone-studded, were recovered from his possession, it is learnt.

It is gathered that these chains were packed in white paper and then covered with brown gum tape. The packet was then concealed in a thermos flask, the customs officials said.

The officials, who have found that the passenger concerned had also undertaken several trips between Dubai and Mangalore in the past, are now trying to find out whether he was involved with gold smuggling activities during his earlier journeys too.

but the rule is rule he should get punished...

hope its not a misprint....of kgs to grams...don't know whats so great about it...this guy must have saved his earnings and would have thought in investing in gold because of the fall in prices.Even the lady at the immigration counter at M'lore Intl airport wears more than 1/4 kg on a daily basis ...I know of a politician from Karnataka who had travelled to Dubai and bought Jewellery, watches and other gifts amounting to several crores.Wonder whom he bribed and how much to get the goods cleared....

Just 157 grams? It is just a peanut compared to what our politicians and government babu's loot. Charge customs duty and close the matter. Just making a big hype by saying gold smuggling is utter nonsense.

If he brought 150gm from Dubai i don't think so it's big smuggling, politicians are looting 1000 of crs In India and no one will bother, he must be having proper receipt for purchasing the gold in UAE, no media will highlight that clues...
