Two trees uprooted in separate incidents, electricity hit

Mangalore, Jun 13: A coconut tree in the compound belonging to Felix got uprooted and fell over the electric wires following continuous downpour here on Thursday June 13.

The incident took place at Maroli Kembar, opposite to the KEB office, at around 2 am.

It is learnt that a Honda Activa and three electric poles have been damaged.

A tragedy was averted as the incident took place in the wee hours. The neighbours came out running on hearing the loud noise. Immediately the Mescom staff was informed. The locals cut down the tree and cleared the road.

The locals said that the MESCOM officials had earlier warned the owner to clear the trees as they posed danger, but they refused to do so.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a giant Mayflower tree got uprooted at Sankolige here late night on Wednesday June 12.

Two houses were located near the spot where tree was uprooted, but luckily, no harm was done as the tree fell over to the other side.

The people in the area faced power cut as the tree fell on high tension electric wires. However, no injuries were reported as the incident occured late night when no passersby or vehicles were around.

The locals complained that the fire brigade and officials concerned did not come to the spot even on Thursday June 13 morning.
