Mangalore, Jun 14: “Public life has now turned into an object of ridicule and mockery. The recently elected people’s representatives can improve upon the situation by providing transparent governance, and thereby giving rise to a new era in the history of the state,” observed former state education minister, B A Moideen.

He was delivering the congratulatory address at the felicitation function organized in the city by All India Beary Parishat for the elected people’s representatives from the district.

“This is a testing period for the elected legislators. People are keeping a close watch on what they are doing. They should keep this in mind while enjoying power,” he advised.

Kanachur Academy of General Education chairman, Kanachur Monu, who inaugurated the programme, recollected the contributions and sacrifices made by the ancestors towards ensuring that Muslim community joins the mainstream. “The new legislators have got an opportunity to prove themselves. This is the time for them to work selflessly and justify the confidence reposed on them,” he felt.

MLA, J R Lobo, while accepting the felicitation, said that this felicitation has increased his responsibility and promised to vibe to the aspirations of the community. Mangalore (north) MLA, Mohiuddin Bava, who was also felicitated, expressed gratefulness and wished the organizers well.

President of All India Beary Parishat, Abdul Aziz Bykampady, presided. Central Jumma Masjid treasurer, S M Rasheed, Congress in-charge district president, Ibrahim Kodijal, and some others participated as chief guests.

As the meeting of the state cabinet had been scheduled for the day, B Ramanath Rai, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Abhay Chandra Jain, and U T Khadar, could not attend the felicitation. MLAs, Shakuntala Shetty and S Angara, were conspicuous by their absence. MLA Vasant Bangera arrived at the venue before the programme began, and left early, because of his other commitments.

The representatives felicitated included those who got elected in the local bodies elections in Sullia, Puttur, Bantwal, Beltangady, and Ullal. Secretary of Beary Parishat, Abdul Hameed Kinya, welcomed. Treasurer, Mohammed Bajpe, proposed vote of thanks. B A Muhammedali presented the programmes.
