Mangalore: Masseur held - stolen ring recovered

Mangalore, Jun 15: Umanath Rao, who was working as a masseur at Pranava Yoga and Naturopathy Centre at Ujjodi near Pumpwell in the city, who was facing the charge of stealing cash and a diamond ring belonging to a customer, has been arrested by the police.

The police said that Umanath Rao, a native of Ukkinadka near Perla in Kasargod district, was taken into custody from near the railway station on Thursday June 13.

A complaint had been filed sometime back in the rural police station here against Rao by Dr Rajesh Padekallu. Allegedly, Rao, who used to work as an assistant to the doctor, had stolen cash amounting to Rs 1,000 and a diamond ring valued at Rs 39,000 from the pocket of the pants belonging to Girish, a customer, when the latter was taking hot bath after the massage. Girish found after the bath that the valuables had gone missing, and Rao had disappeared from the clinic. Based on suspicion, a complaint was filed against the missing masseur at the rural police station here.

The police, who recovered the ring from a person to whom it had been sold by the thief, produced Umanath Rao in a court here. He was remanded to judicial custody.
