Union cabinet reshuffle - Oscar to become tranport minister?

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi (SP)

New Delhi, Jun 17: The UPA government has decided to induct new ministers and reshuffle the union ministry. The oath-taking ceremony has been scheduled be held on Monday June 17 evening at Rashtrapati Bhavan. In all likelihood, Oscar Fernandes will be administered oath as a minister, and given charge of surface transport.

The Congress government, which has already obtained the resignations of a few ministers with the aim of roping in their services for organizational works in the run-up to the 2014 general election, may introduce some new and old faces to the union ministry. The present expansion and re-organization of the ministry appears to be the last one before the Lok Sabha election. It is thought that the Congress wants to give a signal through this reshuffle, that it is preparing to face the challenge posed by the BJP, which recently chose its firebrand leader and Hinduta icon, Narendra Modi, as the convener of its election committee.

The Congress has been revamping its organizational network on a continuous basis since Rahul Gandhi took over as one of the vice presidents of the party a few months back.

Ministers Ajay Maken and C P Joshi, who recently resigned from the union cabinet, have been given organizational responsibilities. Maken has been made the chief of the media wing of the party, while Ambika Soni has been made in-charge of Congress president’s office. Madhusudan Mistry has been made in-charge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh.  Digvijay Singh has been given the charge of Andhra Pradesh.

There are rumours that the party may reward Mallikarjun Kharge with railway ministry, to compensate for sacrificing his ambition of becoming chief minister of Karnataka. Sources say that Oscar Fernandes will be made surface transport minister.  Girija Vyas, Sis Ram Ola, Meenakshi Natarajan, and Virender Singh, are the other new faces likely to be inducted into the union ministry.

Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, was to take part in several programmes in Udupi district on Sunday, but rushed to New Delhi during one such programme, after he received a call, duly cancelling all his engagements for the day. This has given rise to the speculation that he will be one of the new ministers to be sworn in this evening.

Surface transport is a national issue and concern (inclusive of all states).
Why we need to suffer a lengthy evolution of automobiles facing severe drawbacks?

A concept change in vehicles can drastically reduce the fuel consumption, eliminate air pollution and sound pollution, reduce costs (production, running and maintenance costs of vehicles), which can facilitate the surface transport considerably cheaper, faster and safer.

A revolutionary change in the land transport will help to enjoy a peaceful society, stable economy and clean environment.

    People,

Knowing Oscar personally since 1978 well before he became a MP and married later on , I would like to say following.

He is not Corrupt or power hungry like most congresspersons.

Very mild mannered person and never wish ill to anybody including his adversaries or political opponents.

When he contested election against late TA Pai in 1980 never removed TA Pais photo from his room.

During his first election he had no money to spend and his friends and well wishers spent money for him.

His father late Rocky Fernandes was Head Master of Board High School Udupi and late TA Pai was one of his students.

After he won his first election in 1980 Indira Gandhi onwards assigned him party work which I believe he did very efficiently...perhaps due to which he could not spend time in the Constituency which resulted in his defeat in his fifth election, i Believe in 1996 against IM Jayarama Shetty.

Now will he become an effective Union Minister and do something good for his State and District,,,So people will remember him like late U Srinivasa Mallya,,, time will answer that....

    Jai Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Although I am not a Supporter of BJP or Narendra Modi , the development that took place during Modi's tenure in Gujarath is Commendable.

Now I believe Congress has understood the difficulties of South Canara and making Oscar has Road Transport Minister...Probably his last chance to Show his authority on Development of his Own City and District.

As One of the Reader rightly commented Oscar will give high preference to Roads from Kerala Border to Baindoor.

He will take Implement necessary actions to make these Roads are Accident Free Zones.

Comeout with AITHAPPA Policies and Complete the Projects.

Adhere the Protocol by not bringing the wife on Stage in Govt Related functions.

DK is the most discarded district if the Central Road schemes are concerned.

When BJP in state and Congi in centre, there was a discord in terms of allocation of funds for the Highway expanison.

Mangalore -Udupi- Kundapur Highway works are jsut stopped some time, notably for want of funds!

Mangalore - Mudabidri - Agumbe National Highway expansion plans only remain on papers over 15 years

Mangalore - Belthangadi - Charmadi National Highway expansion plan was just spoken...but never moved on..Our BJP MP has no voice, and Congress MLAs cry that the project has to be from Central Government.

At Punjal Katee, Guruvayankere Roads are so narrow that atleast 1 or 2 fatal acciedents take place on alternative month. One could wonder, a busy stretch like this leading to the famous Dhrmastala Temple if remains un attended by Politicians, what else we can expect.

I hope, Oscar will put his mind and heart to develop our roads, so that atleast he will give back something to the people who gave him a great political carrier !!

since my childhood we all are talking and depending only on erstwhile NH-17 (now NH-66. NH is meant specially for Trucks and long distance vehicles, but unfotuanately there was no other alternative roads are built by succesive State govts eventhough local vehicle trafic increased. need of the hour is complete the work of NH66 as well as make new additionals roads parrell to NH-66.

Oscarjee is rewarded with ministry because at congress head quarters he has impressed them with winning back the seat of LS as well as state assembly electons (winning reasons may be be different)

the ministryship should gone to udupi MP JP Hedge who beleives in work for people and in return congress could benefited in next LS elections.

having said that, Oscarji have a golden chance for one year to silence his critics by completing the NH-66 pending work from Goa to Mangalore. we hope, we pray, we wish, we support, we help you to achive your goals by saying Aithappa.

Dear Mr. Valerian your view is correct, but a man who has won 4 times in udupi and has done nothing is what people talk, nice person for sure he is, no doubt, but that alone wont solve the problems of the people and the area he represents, we should just look around a tiny state like kerala and how their elected representative fight for their development, Oh no jealousy here just highlighting the issue, nothing much is expected from our Oscar a few more feleciations, which are already on since the congress has come to power in the state, now yes it might be his last chance so we can proudly say our Oscar ji has done this and that , lets wish him all the very best
