Beltangady: Thieves decamp with 19 Teerthankara idols

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Jun 17: Thieves gained entry into Parshwanatha Basadi, also known as Bayalu Basadi in Neriya in the taluk on the night of Saturday June 15, and took away idols of Teerthankaras, apart from the idol of Goddess Padmavati Devi and two golden chains.

The thieves broke open the window on the left side of the Basadi with the help of a strong wooden piece. Out of 24 idols of Teerthankaras found in the Basadi, they took away 19, apart from the idol of Goddess Padmavati. Two golden chains were also taken away.

The thieves are found to have left the aureoles of these idols untouched. The thieves went out by opening the main doors. It seemed to be a job of professional thieves.

The theft came to light when Sankiran Indra, priest of the Basadi, visited the Basadi at 10 am on Sunday.

This Basadi was targeted by thieves about 18 months back. Later, the stolen idols were recovered from some idol thieves arrested from Kadaba in Puttur taluk. Out of the idols presently stolen, the idol of Goddess Padmavati happens to be an ancient one, which used to be worshipped by Bailangady kings.

The finger print experts who were summoned, could not find any clues, it is gathered. Beltangady sub-inspector of police, Yogeesh Kumar, and other personnel, visited the spot and took up investigation.

Ever since Congress came to power in Karnataka, robbery, attacking Duty Officer, etc increased in our Coastal Area. We may recollect the few days back incidents happened I think in Hubbli, hitting Duty bound Government Hospital Doctor by none other than Congress MLA. Surprisingly no media made much hue and cry regarding this issue at all. No other go, for next few years we have to bear with this Government

    Bollu,

Please man, what relevance between robbery and politics ? Do not submerge yourself in politics so deep. We need good governance at the centre. Let it be BJP or Congres (NDA). We are educated people, we hold the key to selct good government. Do not simply go by BJP beacuse that is your favourite party. Be reasonable sometimes.

Any doubt that God will not punish the bad people. There may be delay, but he hold the chain one day for sure.

I agree that there is no relevance between robbery and politics.

But, why BJP was accused in similar cases by the commentators here and the same commentators have become philosophical now!

The thief is a frequent visitor to the temple no doubt and has planned the robbery accordingly by keeping in note the weak wooden window which made him easier to get into the temple, but what about the "GARBA GUDI" WAS IT NOT LOCKED in spite of frequent robbery threats in the past??????

Police must catch those thieves and the whole Giro. Who are the buyers of those idols? Are they Indians or Foreigners? Do they keep those idols in the showcase or use them for something else?

Must have been a well planned robbery. No one can steal the idols and then look for a customer. The thieves must have already handed over the idols to their customers. Some 50 years back, no one would have dared to steal from any holy place, even if the doors were wide open. However, majority of the people including thieves still have respect for holy places. And that is good for the society.

The thieves must realize that the wealth they got out of this robbery is not blessed one.

God show them a lesson earlier the better.
