Mangalore, Jun 17: Mysore division DIG (prisons) Vishwanathaiah on Monday June 17 carried out a surprise raid on the district jail here and found ganja, mobile phones and playing cards inside the premises.

The raid began at around 7.30 pm. Altogether, two packets of ganja, 12 mobile phones, 7 chargers and two sets of playing cards were seized.

Speaking to reporters after the raid operation, Vishwanathaih said that the raid was conducted as per the directions of chief minister Siddaramaiah. "In a meeting with the CM and the high officials, it was decided that jails across the state would be regularly inspected, hence we have conducted this raid today" he said.

He also informed that such surprise raids will be carried out in other jails throughout the state in the coming days.

"The ganja, mobile phones and other items found today were not recovered from any person, but were found hidden in the jail premises. We do not know who they belong to, and investigation is on to find out more," he said.

ACP Kiran, ACP Kavitha, circle inspector Ravish Naik, SI Nandakumar, SI Madan Kumar, SI Shareef, SI Ramakrishan and staff were part of the operation.

Who is responsible for the supply of Ganja, mobile phones etc. Is it some organisations are favouring their members by supplying prohibited items. Our New CM has to take stern actions to clean the entire department. The present step taken by the CM is really admirable.

Jails , like depicted in some of our movies are safe havens for criminals where govt. provides 24x7 safety to the inmates from rival criminals and with the amenities like cell phones, they can carry on with their criminal activities remotely and of course, despite all these, if the inmates still feel stressed, there’s supply stress-buster like ganja and what not.

BJP government was taking care of inmates too.
Specially BJP MLA's and ministers not even hasitated to visit criminals in Mangalore jail.

Prevoiusly many time they found mobiles and mobile charges inside jail, once one Judge too visited jail and found the same.
As people axpected why BJP should not have taken action against jail authorities? since they were taking care of their own criminals (guilty not prooved)

That means the hardcores are enjoing the prison life. Cozy.

We have to blame our security personnel. Money (bribary) makes anything.

Only thorough investigation will lead to all the missing clues.

CM has ordered so DIG has conducted the ride, and conveniently they found the Mobiles and Ganja inside the Jail premises, not in the possession of Jail inmates. Hope every body understood.

Jails have become luxurey centres. This may be the main attraction these days wherein people are aspiring to go to jail. The prison staff need to be observed strictly and defaulting staffs need to be dismissed and whole sale reshuffle of staff members required on priority. To control crimes our prisons must do their duty without any deviation.Hope, the government do the needful.Twanq.

Why DIG(Prison) wait for Chief Ministers orders to raid District and other jails? The superior jail officers and other authorities very well an conduct raids at any time. Our Govt. always act on issual of orders from Supreme courts and High Courts. Why this is so? Periodical inspection of jails should be conducted regularly. Few months back the jail was raided at regular intervals and many weapons were found. So why this lethargy? During the raids mobiles, Ganja and playing cards traced. How they come inside and who permitted them to bring inside.? For what purpose they brought mobiles inside. May be to make plot to murder or loot anybody. The jail authorities are shirking their responsibility by saying the the raid has been done as per the directions of CM. Why they say like that when it is the responsibility of Jail police to act or to do so.

Good and bad people are everywhere. But once given responsibility to serve public , police should not indulge in such activities.50% of police are ganja smokers .dats for sure.Sad thing is that , the innocent people suffer the most and the big fish always escape and abscound

Absolute non sense, well tipped off raid, So nobody is found possessing things, Its a eye wash within 24 hours all things will be normal. If all the jails had zero communication to outside , how will the city hafta collection work, Police on crime duty can make collection everyday there has to be a provision also for the jail dept so this is a avenue for money. All is fair in war and love.... In India the British legalized bribery for the Police so it will continue..

Foolish police. they do not know to whom these mobiles belong. If one call is made from these mobiles to another mobile, the calling number can be traced and the whole call history can be traced. This is how our Police are investigating the crimes. Why the Police has to wait for CM's order to carry out such inspections. Hereafter, all the govt officers will wait for CM's orders to carry out their daily work.

why mobile phone and cards ok ? It is through this mobile phone that they do all illegal activities. Money is used while playing cards. Jail authorities should be punished for this.
