Beltangady: CA Bank president, Kasim Alake, dies in accident

Beltangady, Jun 18: Kasim Alake (52), a senior Congress leader and president of Tannirpanth Service Cooperative Bank (CA Bank), lost his life in an unfortunate accident, which occurred at Haleji in the taluk on Monday June 17 evening.

Kasim was returning to his home at Kalleri near Uppinangady on Monday evening, when he reportedly lost control over his vehicle because of blinding rain. The car hit a roadside culvert and jumped into the gorge.  Kasim got stuck inside the car.

Some villagers came to know about the accident about 30 minutes after the accident. Although they arranged to bring Kasim out of the car and admitted into a hospital in Puttur, he could not be saved.

Kasim had worked as the president of taluk level minority unit of the Congress. He was elected as gram panchayat president of Tannirpanth several times, and was the current gram panchayat member too. Since the last sometime, he was facing health-related problems, but had recovered recently.

Kasim is survived by wife, three daughters, and a son. MLA, K Vasant Bangera, rushed to the hospital immediately after coming to know about the incident, and consoled the family members of the deceased.
