Beltangady: Two more Basadis targetted by thieves, idols stolen

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Jun 19: Within two days of a theft in which several idols of Teerthankaras and gold chains were stolen from Neriya Basadi, the thieves struck again, this time at Bangadi in the taluk on Monday June 17 night. In this case, they entered two Basadis by breaking open the locks of the front doors.

The thieves who gate crashed into the yard of Chaturvinshati Basadi in Bangadi by breaking open the lock, took away 18-inch high Panchaloha idols of Sri Adinatha Swamy, Vrishabhanatha Swamy,  Dharmanatha Swamy, and Mahaveera Swamy.

They then entered the Basadi dedicated to Padmaprabha Teerthankara in the same compound, and succeeded in taking away an 18-inch idol of Padmaprabha Teerthankara, and a six-inch Panchaloha idol of Lord Brahma seated on a horse.

The thieves abandoned their efforts to break open the door of Shantinatha Swamy Basadi after their attempts at it failed. They then broke open donation boxes and took away currency notes found inside.

The incident came to light when Vishwasena Indra went to the Basadi to perform morning Puja. Deputy superintendent of police, Sadanand Varnekar, police circle inspector, Sudhakar Nayak, and sub-inspector, Yogeesh Kumar, visited the spot. Although sniffer dogs and finger print experts were also summoned to the spot, it is learnt they could not be of much help in providing any clues about the thieves.

I refer to the comments made by Dinesh Poojary and Kushal. Any Government or the Police have limited resources. They are responsible for the overall discipline. Its the responsiblity of the community to arrange for private security. We are 2013 and must learn to LIVE WITH TIME. Gone are the good old days. In today's world the left hand refuses to recognise the right hand. PRIVATE SECURITY is the only option.
