Mangalore, Jun 19: "The Somasekhar report on the church attacks in 2008 was not officially tabled in the state Assembly but only submitted to the cabinet and the inquiruy team, and circulated unofficially. The report will be discussed in the next Assembly session," said home minister K J George.

He was addressing a press meet here on Wednesday June 19.

On the sexual harassment case against ACP Jagannath, K J George said that the decision on his transfer has to be taken by the police establishment board. "An inquiry team has already been set up. Once the report is submitted, appropriate decision will be taken and accused will be punished if found guilty," he said.

"A special state-level team comprising former judges and ex-officials will be formed to deal with and probe sexual harrasment cases," he added.

"Higher grade policemen with more than 30 years of service in department will be given promotion. For the lower grade policemen, certain guidelines will be chalked out after discussion with higher officials in the coming days," he said.

On the shortage of police personnel in the state, he said, "19,000 police posts have been lying vacant from the last three years. They will be filled up stage by stage. The quota for women in the police department will be increased to 20 percent from 10 percent."

He added, "There is a requirement of 35,000 police quarters in the state. There are plans to build 4,000-5,000 quarters and the same has been discussed with the chief minister also. I will also visit the existing quarters and check their condition, and have them rebuilt if necessary.

"A housing loan scheme will be introduced for police personnel who want to have their own house. Also, school facilities, special skill development programmes and other welfare schemes will be made available for children of police personnel," he added.

He also said that the present Mangalore city police commissionerate will be given magistrate powers soon.

"Modernization of weapons, upgrading of CCTV cameras and other infrastucture changes will be done at the earliest," the minister said.

On the recent case of assault on two policemen in the city, he said the matter will be taken seriously and the accused will be punished.

Referring to complaints by people facing problems during passport verification, he said he will direct the officials to take appropriate steps. "Strict action will be taken against police personnel who demand or accept bribes for any work," he warned.

"Special drives to curb drug mafia especially in pubs and other places will be discussed soon. Special training programmes will be introduced for Anti-Terrorism Squad and Anti-Naxal Force. Both ANF and ATS will function under Anti-Terrorist Cell," he said.

On the occasion, the district Working Journalists' Union (DKWJU) submitted a memorandum to K J George urging withdrawal of all cases against reporters in the Padil home stay case.

Police commissioner Manish Karbikar, SP Abhishek Goyal, IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy were present.

Nagesh Maam, an impartial probe by CBI on Church attacks will expose the real culprit who masterminded and carried out the attacks systematically. Such people are very dangerous to the society and they must be incarcerated. The so called preachers who insulted the Hindu God, should also be punished, if they found any. The world watched the brutality of police force and they also should be held accountable. You know what happened after the attack on Sikh Temple in early 80s.

The utmost patience shown by Catholics of Mangalore during the attack is commendable. They did not attack back in the same manner as they were aware that the attack was not carried out by the religious people but the political goondas who hardly know about their own religion.

CBI enquiry of Church attack will also be supported by the fair minded Hindus who have elected all minority candidates this time in Mangalore. Along with Christians, Hindus and Muslims also want to know the truth behind the attack.

There is no such thing as blanket forgiveness in Christianity. Christians want to know who to forgive. It is the duty and responsibility of the elected government to tell them who was the culprit.

Mr. Kudroli the people of Karnataka are definitely intelligent and you say so. They gave a chance to BJP to rule the state thinking that they would be development oriented carry along with all castes and religions. But alas! they proved otherwise. They became corrupt, looters, bigots, minority bashers and let loose the goonda raj. Hence Mr. K.J. George is only doing his duty to go into the incidents afresh and set the things right. You may like it or not.

When the BJP came into power in 2008, in a single day within hours 14 Churches were attacked blaming on forced conversion. Simply see through the "yourtube" Hindu radicals attack Christians in Karnataka. I grew up with Hindus, we all lived in love and peace, but a very few brainwashed radical elements are causing greater shame and pain to the great Hindu religion. These street rowdies got the mental courage when the BJP came into power, straightaway entered the places of worship and started beating the innocent worshippers, and the State of Karnataka became the leading State in the nation in the minority persecution, especially the Christians. If these rowdies are not caught and punished, that is an aversion of justice.

The first reaction of then home minister V S Acharya after the church attacks was of irresposibility in dismissing that no life was lost.He was so ignorant about the christians that he failed to understand what went through a peaceful community while attacking their relegious places. The whole incident needs to be thoroughly probed and the historic crime and criminals and their coward masters who did this should be dealt a severe blow.Never again anybody should dare to even think of such a cowardly act.Their masters would not do this in public but only support the criminals for vote bank politics.
