Moodbidri, Jun 19: Tahsildar of the taluk, Shivakumar, and municipal chief officer, Rayappa, visited a hotel in the town on Tuesday June 18, in response to a complaint received from the general public. Residents of Samagara Gundi near here had complained that they have been facing multifarious problems because of release of untreated effluents by the hotel in question into a storm drain which passes through their residential area.

The locals, thorugh Gandhinagar Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, had said that they have been forced to put up with numerous problems because of the disinclination of the hotel management in question to follow government guidelines. As the hotellier remained adamant in the face of several past notices issued by the municipality here, the tahsildar personally visited the hotel and issued oral warning.

Shivakumar said that the hotel owners have been told to stop releasing the effluents into the storm drain within 24 hours. “The hotel owners have sought four months time for installing mechanism to treat the effluents. We have told them to arrange at their own cost to shift the effluents through the municipality till the needful is done, failing which the hotel will face action,” he explained.

The chief officer warned that the licence of the hotel will be cancelled if it releases waste water into the storm drain henceforth. Local municipal councilor, Koragappa, said that the hotel has also been giving rise to traffic problems because of improper parking system there.  He said that discussion held at municipal council sessions on the subject, and his suggestion to declare the area as  no parking zone has failed to yield any result.

Municipal councillor, Bahubali Prasad, Gandhinagar Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike leaders, Venataramana Prabhu, Govindan, Anantraj Bhat, Shashidhar Kamath, G L bhat, Kishore Shetty, and several others were present.
