Mangalore, Jun 20: State home minister K J George visited the district Congress office here on Wednesday June 19. He was accorded a grand welcome at the party office by Congress leaders who were present in large numbers.

In his welcome address, Ibrahim Kodijal said that the BJP has tortured not only the Congress and the public, but the media also. “In the home stay attack, cases have been registered against media persons who went there on duty. These kinds of incidents have to be stopped in future,” he urged the home minister.

Different organizations submitted memorandums to the home mister. Guest lecturers’ association submitted a memorandum stating the problems faced by them while a few residents of Panjimogaru area submitted a memorandum regarding the unsolved mystery behind the Panjimogaru double murder case.

The district women’s wing submitted a memorandum regarding various atrocities faced by the women in the district. Speaking on behalf of the women’s wing, president Mamatha Gatty said that the drug mafia had been spreading their tentacles in the district at an alarming rate. “Many youth, especially students, have lost their lives to this menace. The police are aware of the root of this menace, but are being stopped from taking action. Hence, this must be taken seriously and steps must be adopted to prevent and completely stop the drug menace in the city.”

“ASI Srikala has complained to higher officials about the sexual harassment inflicted on her by ACP Jagannath. An FIR has been registered in this regard, but yet no action has been taken against the ACP. This is another serious issue. A dress code needs to be implemented for students, not just up to PU level, but also for degree students,” she urged.

Speaking on the occasion, J R Lobo, MLA, said that the grand victory of Congress in the district has created a vibrant spirit among the party workers. “Intolerable incidents like moral policing and attack on religious centers have to be taken seriously. Strict action must be taken against the accused. People are fed up of BJP rule and hence, they have chosen for change and brought Congress into power.”

He too urged the home minister to look into matters such as the drug mafia, live bands, clubs, and the sexual assault case of ASI Srikala.

On his part, George said that the party workers are the prime reason for the victory in the state. “We are expecting and striving hard to ensure a corruption free government in future days. C M Siddaramaiah has also asked the cabinet to be strict in this regard and to be very transparent in its workings. Moral policing needs to be taken very seriously and strict action will be taken. State level meeting with the officials will be held to curb live bands, clubs, and the drug mafia. Steps will be taken to remove all fake cases against mediapersons in the home stay attack incident,” he said.
