Stage set for first ever Konkani musical nite in UK

Daijiworld Media Network - London

London, Jun 20: The Konkani speaking community spread across the United Kingdom is eagerly awaiting the first-ever full-pledged Konkani musical nite to be staged on June 23 at Copeland School, Cecil Avenue, Wembly, Middlesex, HA9 & DU, 2 pm onwards.

History will be created in Europe as Stan Mendonca, young composer and singer from Cascia parish of Mangalore presents his 'Stan Nite' with budding and experienced fellow artistes from around the UK. The highlight of the programme is that ace Konkani singer Rony D'Cunha from Kuwait who has rendered his voice around the Middle East and India will be singing in the event along with Joseph Mathias, philanthropist and singer.

According to the organisers, Keith Vaz, a British Labour Party politician and a Member of Parliament for Leicester East, the longest-serving Asian MP who is extremely popular among the Asian community in the UK, will be attending the event.

Walter Nandalike, founder and editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com and Dayan D'Souza, founder president of Daiji Dubai Konkani Writers Forum in the UAE will also be flown in from Dubai exclusivly to witness the historic event.

Speaking to daijiworld Stan Mendonca said that he is humbled by the overwhelming support received from Konkani speaking community in the UK. Several organizations have pledged thier support. "It was my dream to stage a my musical show in the UK, many people initially told me that it will be an impossible task but with so many people's support, it is now becoming a reality. I am thankful to all the supporters, well-wishers, artistes in the UK as well as abroad. My special gratitude to Ronald Colaco, who wholeheartedly supported to me in this event. He wanted to attend the event, but due to prior committments in Bangalore he has sent a regret letter."

The musical delight will do justice in every sense as there will be brand new renditions by Stan Mendonca and his team. The other artistes from the UK who will perform in the event are Ansuya Gomes from Bristol, Ancita D’Souza from Cardiff, Sunil D'Cunha from Nottingham and also new and emerging talents like Blossom Fernandes, Melanie Rodrigues from London and Sonal Mendonca from Sunderland.

The other highlights of the evening include ribs-tickling jokes and dances by talented performers which definitely will serve as icing on the cake.

Entry passes are already being issued, so everyone is requested to book their tickets without any delay to avoid last minute disappointment.

Speaking to daijiworld in London, some of the prominent Mangaloreans in London who offered support to Stan said:

Konkani is a language close to our heart. Though we are away from our motherland, Konkani language keeps us alive and take us back home, our parents and loved ones. The language unites all of us in the UK. Hats off to Stan Mendonca for daringly coming forward to stage his own show in London. No doubt we will create history on June 23.

Ron Rodrigues
President, SKA London

We are extremely privileged in having a Konkani Musical Nite in London for the very first time. This is due to none other than Stan Mendonca who has already become a buzz word in Mangalore for his Konkani music. Stan is performing in London on June 23 at Copeland School, Cecil Avenue, Wembly, Middlesex, HA9 7DU. This is a great opportunity for all Konkani lovers to go and enjoy the music sung in their mother tongue.

SKA London is right behind Stan in supporting his unique performance and his efforts to unite the people of Mangalore in London. We extend our warm wishes for the success of his concert on June 23 and hope that he will perform many more times in the future.

The very best to you Stany.

Helen Augustin

It is our duty to protect our language wherever we are. Only our language brings us so closer to each other. In London we must all unite to promote our language further. While I extend my support to Stan Nite, I am looking forward to the D-day to create new milestone among the Konkani people living around here.
