Kundapur, Jun 21: “Education should show a path towards a good life and create good citizens. It should help in building harmony in the society. Through this, it should be a medium to enrich humanity,” said thinker Professor Narayan Rao.

He addressed the gathering during the 13th Giliyaru Kushala Heggde Memorial scholarship distribution programme held at Kundapur Board High School on Wednesday June 19.

“With a sharp mind, a student will have an overall better well-being. While studying, once should have the practice of questioning to know more about the subject. Through education, one should build unity,” added Prof Rao.

“Above all, parents should teach their children the differences between their money, public money, God’s money, and parents’ money. Only then will students know the importance of financial help,” he opined.

“At the national level, people’s thinking is changing. Importance is only given to the development of national products but not individual development. Value-based education is decreasing, hence, educational institutions have turned into commercial business,” added Prof Rao.

Distributing the scholarship, he said discipline is important for education. “Senior advocate Giliyaru Kushala Heggde is a role model to the society. He was supportive to various students,” said Prof Rao asking students to inculcate his values.

Later, scholarships were distributed to the students. The programme was presided over by Karnataka Bank director Dr Ram Mohan while Soloman Soans, retired headmaster of Kollur Mookambika High School, Kushala Heggde, and brother Manjunath Heggde were present of the dais.
