Dubai, Jun 21: It was indeed on a beautiful sunny day that the Choice Cricketers Mangalore lifted the Late Louis Monteiro Memorial Cup, 2013 defeating their archrival Gulf Mangalorean Cricketers (GMC) by four wickets. A 11 a side MRE Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament was recently played at the Zabeel Park Cricket Ground.
The main sponsor for this event was Sea Mark Shipping LLC Dubai who gave away cash prize worth Dhs 3000 to the winner.
A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament. All the Pool A matches were played on June 7, where Riders Dubai and GMC reached the semi-finals. GMC managed to move to the finals by defeating Riders Dubai by seven runs. On the other hand Pool B matches were played on June 14, where TFC Taccode and Choice Cricketers qualifyied for the semi-finals. Choice Cricketers defeated TFC to enter the finals with GMC.
Sponsors and supporters of GMC-Late Louis Monteiro Memorial cup -2013, Lilla Montiero, Simon Sequira, Sharol Pai Ground sponsor, Asha Aranha Seamark Shipping LLC the main sponsor, Ajith Montiero representative of Rohan Montiero and Jerald Lobo were present during the event.
Presentation ceremony was held after the finals at 5 pm. Choice Cricketers collected the GMC-Late Louis Monteiro Memorial cup -2013 and Dhs 3000.00 from Lilly Montiero, wife of Late Louis Montiero Mangalore, who was personally present. Gulf Mangalorean Cricketers collected the GMC-Late Louis Monteiro Memorial cup -2013 runners-up trophy along with Dhs 2,000cash prize from Asha Aranha of Seamark Shipping LLC. Richard of Choice Cricketers collected the man of the match award of the final from Ajith Montiero representative of Roahn Montiero. Prashanth of Choice Cricketers got the best bowler of the tournament from Herry Aranha. Cleevan Mendonca of Choice Cricketers was adjudged as the best batsman of the tournament and collected the award from Sharol. Man of the series was awarded to Preetham of GMC for his all-round performance from Simon sequiera. A total no of 15 Man of the Match awards for each match was given to the best performers. Presentation ceremony compered by Dony Noronha Allipade.
Entertaining running commentary was provided by Dony Noronha, Naveen, Loyal Nazareth. Scoring was done by Vishal Mendonsa and Donald D’Souza. Umpires for the tournament were Prakyath Shetty Preetham, Rajesh Alvares, Nithesh Tellis Izaz Donald D’Souza, Loyal Nazareth.
The entire tournament was ably organized by GMC team members. Organizers Gulf Mangalorean Cricketers managed the entire day’s proceedings in utmost professional way.
