Felt like Lord Shiva dancing in rage: Shobha Karandlaje on Uttarakhand floods

Bangalore, Jun 21: Former Karnataka minister Shobha Karandlaje, who returned here after remaining stranded for four days at Rudraprayag in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand, on Friday said it was a harrowing experience as her group of 1,000 pilgrims had to spend sleepless nights sandwiched between high mountains and the flooded Ganga river.

"The disaster in Uttarakhand reminded me of Hollywood film '2012', which I saw some years ago. I also felt that Lord Shiva was dancing in rage, probably angered due to degradation of ecology taking place in Rudraprayag area," she said narrating her harrowing experience to reporters here.

'2012' is an American science fiction film based on disaster story. "We were around thousand people in our group," Karandlaje, who was a member in the previous BJP ministry and later joined former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's KJP, said.

The landslide started on June 15 when she was returning from Gangotri. "I was lucky that my car reached a safe place. Three people, who were in a vehicle behind us, died after the vehicle fell into a ditch."

"We were sandwiched between high mountains and flooded Ganga river downwards. On top of the hill landslides were taking place. For one night I could not even get out of my car," she added.

She said after travelling a while she was stranded in her car at Kandiakhand and had to reach Budla by climbing a hill. "We were stranded at Budla for four days," she said.

Karandlaje said the pilgrims in her group were from West Bengal, Maharashtra and Rajasthan and majority were old women and children. They had minimal food supply and children fell sick and there was no doctor to attend to them. "We could not sleep either due to the rising river water or the possibility of more landslides," she said.

She said the locals helped her group to fetch water from far off places on their bikes as going closer to the river was dangerous.

Karandlaje said to get to the safer place they walked some distance and rode some distance as a pillion on bikes, adding, local people were "extremely helpful".

In Gangotri, she met some pilgrims from Karnataka but many who were stranded in Kedarnath and other places were in touch with her on her mobile, Karandlaje said.

"At Rishikesh, I also saw thousands of bikes, cars and gas cylinders getting washed away at Gangotri-Alakananda Sangam...The military is doing a good job in rescuing people and taking them to safety."

Mr. Jeevan is missing in this episode. I usually notice all are express their views & comments in a positive thinking. But he always gives useless bad comments whether it is not related to politics whichever article appeared in Daijiworld. Hope Shobha has learnt good lesson from Uttarakhand flood disaster.

Shobha was the best minister of Power in the BJP government (probably the best among all the governments). She ensured regular power supply with minimum power cuts unlike her predecessor Eshwarappa who was trigger happy to disrupt power supply across the state for reasons (or excuses) best known to himself. Her prayers and our good wishes saved her from the traumatic experience.

The natural calamities do happen all over the world, in Japan, China or Amerika. It is the preparedness and disaster management where we are miserable. We have no count of the dead or stranded. No rescue plan. The powerful and wealthy get preference, even in this calamity people try to make money at exorbitant price selling water or food. That is my INDIA.

It is not Tandava Nruthya (Rage Dance) of Rudra Shiva, but it is the rage dance of Human beings-rogue Politicians and Timber Mafia of Uttarakhand. Since the forest around that area is completely destroyed by Timber Mafia-Cum-Politicians, there was climate change and resultant cloud burst during pre-monsoon itself. Usually rainy season starts in Uttarakhand only after 28th of June, but this time it started Ten days earlier beginning with cloud burst.

It's not Lord Shiva but valid reasons causing changes in climate , weather and rainfall patterns:
    1. Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants.
2.Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gasoline for transportation.
3.Methane emissions from animals, agriculture such as rice paddies, and from Arctic seabeds.
    4. Deforestation, especially tropical forests for wood, pulp, and farmland.
5.Increase in usage of chemical fertilizers on croplands.
    6. Due to Global warming effect rise in sea levels worldwide.
    6.More killer storms.
    8. Massive crop failures.
    9.Widespread extinction of species.
    10 Disappearance of coral reefs.

Such disasters are surely going to happen unless corrective steps are taken. The Govts outdated bogus datas is as old as the hills and needs updation especially Forests data and land cover . The latest data says that the Forests cover has actually increased in the country. But this needs to be authenticated and is easy to ascertain with accuracy with sophisticated and really cheap GPS/GIS sysytems . Why the forests area has increased is actually very simple as the afforestation and new areas sown is huge. But the original rich forest covers in most parts of the country and especially in the Richest Forest Zones like the Western Ghats have been totally stripped of the original cover due to various reasons known. The IFS cadre are totally obliged to obey the Forest Ministers ( Which Department in most States is controlled by the C.M.
The Western Ghats ( 60 % of which is the Kartnataka) which are recognised as the Hotspot of Biodiversity has been given the Heritage tag by the Unesco. Whereas the officials are misleading the people and the Strong political lobby at the Centre and State are opposing this Precious tag tooth and nail despite the concerns voiced by Environmentalists .The South West Monsoons will soon disappear and many such calamities will be thrust by nature and not Lord Shiva Shobakka.

Since Bramha/God created this universe and mankind he will not destroy the same. When we go away from GOD and worship the acts of devil, it is the demon/devil feel happy to destroy the creation of GOD.

Bramha/God will only maintain silence till we accept him.

By personally going through an environmental disaster, the former Minister now is in a better position to help control the environmental damages by using her clout and powers. It is a blessing in disguise.

If Lord Shiva was dancing as he was angered because of ecological degradation in Rudraprayag area,

What about the 3.5 Million Metric Tonnes of Iron Ore illegally mined by your previous Team members from Bellary which has permanently damaged the fragile ecosystem of Bellary.
