Modi effect: Yeddyurappa syndrome returns to haunt Karnataka BJP

Modi effect: Yeddyurappa syndrome returns to haunt Karnataka BJP

By V S Karnic

Bangalore, Jun 22 (IANS):
The BJP's Karnataka unit is gung-ho, like a section in the party, over Narendra Modi's ascendancy. However the Gujarat chief minister's rise also seems to have emboldened former leader B.S. Yeddyurappa's supporters in the party to step up the campaign for his return before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

While only Bharatiya Janata Party legislator G. Madhusudan has written a letter to party president Rajnath Singh to get Yeddyurappa back, many of the former chief minister's supporters are said to be lobbying away from public glare for his return.

The lobbying has picked up pace following Modi's appointment as head of the party's campaign panel for the Lok Sabha polls, which is taken to mean the near total marginalization of party veteran L. K. Advani.

Advani was a strong critic of Yeddyurappa as his over three-year rule in Karnataka was mired in scandals relating to sex, rape, corruption and illegal land deals. The veteran leader was also highly critical of the way the BJP central leaders had handled the Karnataka issue.

Yeddyurappa supporters apparently believe the Advani era in the BJP is over and hence it is time their leader returned to the party. Yeddyurappa is a great admirer of Modi and is said to be on good terms with him. He had hinted at his willingness to return to the BJP soon after Modi's nomination as campaign panel chief.

His supporters in the BJP are also encouraged to carry on their campaign as the state party leadership has not categorically stated that Yeddyurappa would not be taken back. This is because the state leadership is not sure of the central leaders' stand on the issue.

The state leadership's stand has been that a decision on such issues is taken by the BJP's central parliamentary board.

This prevarication is in spite of Yeddyurappa forming the Karnataka Janata Party with the main aim of "rooting out the BJP from the state".

Yeddyurappa may never realise his goal of uprooting the BJP in Karnataka. But he did damage the party in the May 5 assembly elections that saw the party lose power after one term in office.

The BJP won just 40 seats in the 225-member assembly while it had bagged 110 seats in 2008.

Yeddyurappa's KJP fared worse, winning only six seats, including his own. However, the KJP did hit the BJP badly in around 30 seats, a fact acknowledged by state BJP itself.

Though the issues on which the assembly and Lok Sabha elections are fought differ widely, for both the BJP and Yeddyurappa it is a question of cutting losses.

Modi is still untested as a national vote gatherer and has not made much of an impact in Karnataka in this year's and the 2008 assembly elections.

Modi will also find it difficult to resolve the Yeddyurappa issue early as taking him back when he is fighting over a dozen cases of corruption will only blunt the BJP's campaign against graft of the Congress-led central government.

These aspects and the fact that the state BJP lacks a leader with an all-Karnataka appeal mean that the party will have to live for a long time with the dilemma on whether to take Yeddyurappa back or not.

Oh! I am so fed up with your predictions. During BJP rule and as they were disintergrating you were predicting their absolute win in the coming election. Likewise so many other predictions.
It is the case of a person "Living in hope and dying in despair"
Now again you have started Modi predictions which will result in same "DESPAIR"

I am the last person to tell you to give up hope - but worried about the latter part of it...!!!

If you get election commissioners official results of the Karnataka assembly election 2013, it shows very clearly that Congress came to Power only because of split in BJP/KJP vote share, in more than 35 assembly seats in North Karnataka and in other seats in Uthara Kannada, Shimoga and Chikamagalur, Chithradurga, Raichur district Bjp was pushed to 3rd position, KJP coming 2nd place, in about 20 seats KJP lost by less than 1000 votes, beneficiary being congress, BSR Congress of Sri Ramulu took about 2.89% votes, other wise it would have been hang assembly, thank god Congress Won.
The main reason for BJP's miserable performance is none other than Mr. B.S. Yedurappa, he has just done what late Mr. Bangarappa did for Congress, no Bangarappa no congress, now no Yedurappa, no BJP.
Mr. Ananth Kumar, Mr. Sadananda Gowda & Mr. Eshwarappa can not build BJP in Karnataka, they have no mass appeal, neither vote pulling capacity, only Mr. Yeddurappa can. So BJP have to do all out effort to get him back to BJP, we think he will before the Lok Sabha polls, with Yedurappa in BJP they can easily win at least 12 to 15 seats.
Mr. BSY is plying his cards close to his chest and watching the development at the Centre, before he does his final move. This is how our politicians play their dirty game, regardless if it is Congress or BJP, we can not expect any progress from either parties. Why would people give a mandate to Congress led UPA in Yr 2014, is it for their scam after scams, using CBI for their gain, for all the corruption they and their allies involved in past over 4 yrs rule? NO No-No.
Educated, intelligent, wise and hard working Indian votes, your choice is simple, do you want Corrupt & Scam filled Congress, Communal & Corrupt & Criminal BJP or clean & Non corrupt Aam Admi Party of Arvind Kejriwal. Our Choice is Aam Admi Party, please vote sensibly and without fear for the progress of India, give them a chance in Yr 2014.

One golden chance given for BJP !!!they ruined it all. It will take years for them to gain the trust of the people back. Now that they are alredy seeing some good governance by Sidarmaiah the chances of any others making a gain in the loksabha elections is doubtful.Kharge supporters are also happy he has been rewarded well.
Now Nitish also indirectly supporting non BJP govt chances of Modi crossing 100 seats is really doubtful

BJP only cannot win much of the Lok sabha seats unless they are with coalition with other regional parties in the policy of give and take !. Yeddyurappa syndrome is a temporary phenomena in Karnataka why because he already failed in his ambition to gain enough seats in the election but sure he succeeded in bringing the BJP govt down totally. Now it is a servival tact for BJP in Karnataka by bring back Yeddyurappa to the same fold.To say It is late in decision but right in the path.

In fact BSY was not supporter of Modi in initial stages. When LKA fell out with BSY amd therefore,BSY opted for Modi. With regarding to Media predictions and survey,it could be pre- modification as CHIEF DE- MISSION.Under the changed scenarios,(JDU's TALAAQ)it is unlikely to get clear cut majority for NDA.Even JAYA LALITHA surprised all in political circle changing allegiance to THIRD FRONT!!!

This all prediction emphasising all will come true only when BJP get majority. How come BJP with its allies can get majority? Even if it get majority, How the BJP allies will allow Modi to become PM? They will not object? Mamatha Banerji will not ask for that post? BJP alone can not come into power. Only when BJP in its own streght forms govt, then only Modi's governance will come.

Because of delayed tactics BJP is not performing well. When Yeddy went from BJP ,he also delayed to form the new party. That is why many BJP MLAs are not joined his KJP .Now It is better for BJP to bring back Yeddy immediately ,so they can give a good fight in the next General Election.Without Yeddy BJP is Zero.If Yeddy comes back then BJP must control Ananth kumar & minus Dhananjay Kumar .

The campaign gaining momentum when LKA sidelined openly by Central BJP leadership which resulted in Modi getting upper hand in BJP.BJP need BSY very badly to rejuvent beleaguered party BJP in Karnataka.

Pros for BJP if BSY facilitated to be in...

1)To up lift low morale of party workers
2)BSY has organizing capacity so that he may rejuvent the party for the next LS poll to give good fight for Congress
3)Modi team's upper hand and simultaneously,LKA's virtual retirement in the party makes BSY to induct as LKA was BSY's bete noir,no more in the helm!!
4)Under the circumstances there is no effective powerful mass leader in BJP, this VOID can be filled by him

Joshi-Ananth Kumar-DVS-ISH can not revive the ailing BJP party for the reason that they have no Mass appeal.

    CONS...

1)Ananth Kumar number one contender for the Karnataka unit of BJP always opposes BSY by hook or crook
2)BSY'S CORRUPTION CASES MAY COME IN BETWEEN IF GIVEN BSY MAIN TASK/RESPONSIBILITY
3)There are small groups headed by different BJP leaders who opposes BSY for his autocratic and bossism in the party (Like MODI)
4)BSY's uncompromising attitude may result in BJP central H.Command to wait for time probably after LS polls.

To sum up,BSY with out BJP salt less curry and BJP with out BSY gas less SODA.... Finally BSy will not sit idle as an politician and he will make some mischievous either for BJP or JDS or even for Congress.

BSY WITH OUT CORRUPTION ACCUSATION IS GREATEST LEADER IN KARNATAKA'S POLITICAL LANDSCAPE IN THE TIMES.

Keep writing good stories to appease congress supporters here.. By the way, you seems to be looking for Yeddy's favour for lokasabha election too. Isn't it?

Congress will win 4-5 seats. BJP 20-22 seats and JDS 1 seat.

With out BSY, BJP is a non entity in Karnataka.Prior to Assembly election you made so many statement which turned to be damn squib!Where as I made several forecasts including twin districts emerged as 95% correct. One of my popular prediction was BJP will not cross 50 MLAs and it would fare for third place!!!Another important comment and prediction was ISH would loose deposit!!!However, I was surprised by loss the of Gopal Bhandari in Karkala!

WITH OUT BSY BJP MAY ABLE BAG 2-3 MP seats and WITH BSY IT MAY REACH UP TO 5-6 MPS!!!
