Kasargod, Jun 23: Railway police on Saturday June 22 arrested an engineer who stole laptops, gold and other valuable items from passengers in air-conditioned bogies of trains.

P Sajeesh (39), a resident of Kannur was arrested at Palakkad.

The police recovered 17 laptops, 27 sovereigns of gold, 15 mobile phones, 10 watches, camera and other stolem items from Sajeesh.

It is said that Sajeesh runs his own networking company in Bangalore by the name of Soft Networking Technology.

Police said that there are cases filed against Sajeesh in Palakkad, Trishur, Ernakulam, Shornur, and several police stations in Tamil Nadu. In Palakkad police station alone, there are 22 complaints against him.

Over the past one year, several complaints were lodged against him in connection to thefts of laptops from passengers in AC trains travelling on Bangalore and Chennai routes. Most of the thefts occured in Chennai, Thiruvanantampuram, Yeshwantpur, and Kannur trains. After stealing laptop and other items from passenger, Sanjeesh would get down at the next station and escape.

The police who have been hunting him down received reliable information that he would be travelling in Coimbatore-Trishur passenger train, and thus were able to arrest him. At the time of the arrest, the police seized three watches, a laptop and a mobile phone from him. The rest of the stolen goods were recovered later.

Further investigations are on.
