Bantwal, Jun 24: Members of a notorious gang of fugitives known as Kalia Rafiq gang with its roots in Kerala executed a deadly attack on Abubakker Siddique (36), son lf Mohammed from Poyyagadde in Kanyana village in the taluk on the night of Saturday June 22. Siddique, whose survival is still hangs in balance, is being treated in a Mangalore hospital.

Reportedly, Kalia Rafiq and Samshuddin from Uppal, and Mukhtar from Hassan, who came in a Maruti Alto car, intercepted Siddque, who was returning home from Kasargod in his Qualis vehicle, at Golikatte in Kanyana village. The gang indiscriminately hit Siddque with rods and swords. Siddque suffered deep wounds in nose, head, right hand, thigh, foot, knees, and some other parts. Isubu, friend of Siddque, who was accompanying Siddque at the time, tried to save Siddique, but was attacked by the gang. Isubu was provided preliminary treatment at Mahavir Hospital in Puttur before being taken to a private hospital in Mangalore.

It is said that Siddique had, sometime back, played a role in ensuring that the Kalia Rafiq gang members were arrested. Kalia Rafiq gang, which used to move about in Kanyana region under suspicious circumstances, had been arrested in the past. The gang faces 36 cases including inter-state trafficking of ganja and theft of cars. Reportedly, Kalia and his gang members have come out on bail.

Siddique has filed a complaint against the above three persons with the police, and termed the incident as an act of retaliation.
