Mangalore, Jun 25: Nikhil Prakash Shetty (41), said to be a close associate of absconding underworld fugitives, Ravi Poojary and Bannanje Raja, was remanded in judicial custody on Monday June 24. Nikhil had been arrested by Mangalore police with the assistance of Interpol recently. 

Nikhil, after getting involved with several underworld-related crimes here, had fled to Dubai.  Dubai police had arrested and deported him to New Delhi. A Mangalore crime branch police team took him into custody from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. He faces several cases of murder, robbery, extortion, arms trafficking, demanding for hafta payment and posing of life threats in Mangalore and Bangalore. He had been on the run since 2007, after participating in robbery from Chemmanur Jewellery showroom in Bangalore in that year. Nikhil faces the charge of taking part in a ploy to murder Vamanjoor Rohi, and supplying arms to Rohi’s assassins.

In the past, a demand to hand him over for police custody was made in the court. On Monday, the police produced him in the court, whereupon the court remanded him to judicial custody.
