DUBAI, Jan 15: A woman of Indian origin married to a UAE national is under trial here for trying to sell her three-month-old baby for 10,000 Dirhams (Rs 1.2 lakh).

A Dubai court was told that the woman, now holding UAE nationality, offered to sell her infant to another Indian woman at a beauty saloon but the latter turned down the offer. The mother claimed she had no shelter and needed food though her husband was a UAE national, a report in a daily here said.

The woman then approached a staff member at the
saloon who first refused the offer. Later when she agreed, the mother brought the baby along with a birth certificate, immunization card and other documents.

The mother told her that if the police were informed she would take the child back. But the employee called the police who monitored the negotiations during which the mother brought down the price to 6,000 Dirhams provided the baby was brought up with love and care. The case is under trial.
