Udupi: Medical report confirms sexual assualt, University offers Rs 3 lac reward

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SM)

Udupi, Jun 26: The medical report of the Manipal University student who was allegedly gang-raped on Thursday June 20 night has confirmed sexual assualt.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday June 26, IGP Pratap Reddy specifically said that the report has confirmed it as a case of 'sexual assault'.

He also said that Manipal University has announced an additional Rs 3 lac for anyone who can give clue to the three men accused in the case. The police department as already annouced a reward of Rs 2 lac, and thus, an informer who is able to help the police with vital clues would be rewarded Rs 5 lac in all.

The IGP also said that 22 more people have been interrogated in the case. By Tuesday evening 47 had been questioned.

The police have got vital clues to the accused and we are confident of catching them soon, he said.

"The make and model of the auto rickshaw used in the crime too has been identified, but we need further confirmation," he said, adding that the police have received good cooperation from all quarters, including Manipal University.

He also said that Kundapur DySP Yashoda has been the single point of contact between the police and the victim so far.

"We are trying our best to convince the victim and the family to come forward and speak up. We cannot force them," he said.

About the crime spot, he said the police are 99 percent sure of it, but not cent percent.

Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah and Dakshina Kannada SP Abhishek Goyal were present.

Problem is - the victim is either reluctant to talk\give information of her attackers to the police or she is still in severe trauma and not in a position to talk properly.
As such Police are in a catch22 situation
with all these useless ABVP etc making things more difficult for police to investigate, it has become difficult for police to concentrate on apprehending the culprits. This may be diversionary tactics from them.

I am of the opinion, it is politically motivated rape than a rapist acting on his own.
There may be tremendous pressure from some sources not to arrest the real culprits - after all police were under their influence for a long time.

Lack of stringent punishment for such crimes, delay in prosecution , general perception of ‘all are corrupt’ mentality , encourages such perpetual crimes.
Karnataka being IT hub of the country , it is unbelievable that vehicle tracking programs are not yet implemented by traffic police .
Nevertheless in many countries it is mandatory to display drivers identity card opposite passenger seat and rent vehicles are color coded area wise .
Such simple ideas surely prevents lot of crimes .

This type of cases can be cracked only through collaborative police network

I am sure the victim must have noticed the RTO number plate of Auto during the entire incident

If at all she can recollect the Reg. number, its a vital information for police to trace the owner

Once they fix the owner of auto case is 90% solved

Noel,, Our whole legal system is pathetic, the girl will have to live in the stigma of a 'rape victim'. She will be shunned by the society. No one would come forward to marry her. The more you get involved in a legal tussle the worse it is. Court case, hearing, identification, cross questions, defense query, evidences. The mental trauma is insufferable. This will drag on for years. Meanwhile ,She by default will garner publicity nation wide. Who would want to speak up and get involved ~?

Agreed..but when self respect is damaged,do you want her to keep quiet and hurt her soul every second ?..Girl doesn't know that millions of people are supporting her..She should be bold and talk and face society. In Kolkatta, when mother of two daughters was gang raped in car by four, she was asked to keep quiet by Govt.,but she didn't listen, she wanted rapists to be punished. She succeded in her mission.Even Delhi girl(Nirbhaya)asked her mother " Are they caught ?"...She got good news before leaving this cruel world..

Police personnels are not angels..can know it immediately. If someone hide too far how they can able to trace out or left the country. Angels only can go as immediately after anybody within a fraction of time. Give them time..due to pressure from all the quarters..things automatically delayed..!! Looks like gal knows culprits very well..!! She is misguiding the investigators..!!

Please talk to police and explain everything so these monsters who has done this are caught and punished properly.

Why are you avoiding to giving your side of story to Investigators??? its not your fault at all....

It appears to me,,, without your complete story Police might not be able to catch the real culprits at all,,, if they could, they would have caught them by now without your input....

    Get well soon.

Told you before and telling you now.

Seemanth Kumar Singh was sent out of India(To UK for training), so he could be investigated by CBI regarding his connection with Bellary Redddy connection(he was SP Bellary before being promoted and posted to Mangalore as CP).

His house in Yelahanka,Bangalore was raided by CBI few weeks before and then he was posted as Commandant Ant Naxal Task Force.

When he himself is being investigated,,, how he could investigate a case so sensitive....

    Please comment after checking facts...

As Prabhu said perhaps Venkesha Prasanna could be added as junior member of Investigative team if they have any plans to stage a fake encounter and get rid of the accused like he has done once before,,, near Udupi railway station and also perhaps near Byndoor(Yettinane???) as well....
