Manipal case: Bajrang Dal gives deadline of 24 hours, warns of moral policing

Udupi, Jun 26: The Bajrang Dal and VHP on Wednesday June 26 came out in strong protest over the alleged gang-rape of a medical student in Manipal and threatened to call for Udupi bandh if the accused were not arrested in the next 24 hours.

The members of Bajrang Dal and VHP took out a procession from Syndicate circle to Tiger circle at Manipal where they held the protest.

Addressing the gathering, Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell said that police has failed to take action against drug abuse and immoral activities in Manipal, and that pubs and parties are allowed to go on till late night which have worsened the problem.

"If the police fail to take action against pubs, drug abuse and other immoral activities in Manipal, we will do it ourselves through moral policing," he warned.

He also demanded the resignation of home minister K J George. "The state government is giving new statements every day over the issue. The home minister has failed in his duty and hence he must resign," Sharan said.

Lashing out at the intelligentsia, he said, "The so-called intelligent people came out in protest during the pub attack in Mangalore. Where are they now and why are they silent?"

"If the police fail to arrest the accused by Thursday June 27 evening, we will call for Udupi bandh," he said.

VHP district prsident Suprasad Shetty, Manjunath Mandya, Sunil K R, Akshaya Gokhale, Sumith Bailoor and others were present.

Hello BD Hero Sharan Pumpwell I am sure now your all BD Companions and also all VHP your friends and companions are happy why because of your threats and protest and of your challenge of making arrangements of MORAL POLICE for searching the gang rape culprits may be the Manipal police were afraid for your DAMKI (threat of challenge) and they were nabbed all the 3 gang rapers within 24 hours. So about them what is your comments can you tell are you going to conduct another protest by demanding with the Manipal police the death sentence of HANG TO DEATH FOR THOSE THREE RAPE CULPRITS WITHIN 24 HOURS? what you can say Shran Pumpwell HERO OF BD please comment on this subject?

@prem from Moodubidri and all DW readers .
Hypothetically speaking do you feel that the strike called for by BD was too close to the surrender date

The Rape occured on the 21 st . it took BD all of 5-6 days to organize the agitation when ABVP,SFI and other youth wings mostly docile in comparison to BD and HJV had already organized protests ," even insurance employees and from some bank had protested "

I guess at some point they knew it was one of their colleagues, imagine the public uproar when they found out that BD was involved .. People would have entered these leaders houses and thrashed them. Better organize a shenanigan of modesty and moral policing and save our skins even before their colleague gets arrested .

These are my view points on the collision of events . I am not anti BD, nor HJV or any other party As a true secular individual what they express is their right in a true democracy, but hypocrisy stems that as the Old saying goes " people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones " and in regard to the population as a whole in these twin districts where we have highest ideals of moral policing . please do not push your principles unto others , keep them for your self and your organization members . I'm sure more than 90% of the people will agree with me on this .

I think BD people forgot that BJP government is nt in rule, so they are warning of Moral policing. First do your job and if you don't have job pls sit at home . Don't try to create problems in society by organizing such kind of protest where you give warning and all. There is police department and government to do this job and they will take care of it. These people simply wants publicity. There are so many people in India get raped every minute, why don't you organize protest there?. The police department should arrest people who give these kind of statements in public irrespective of whichever group or religion they belongs to.

These bajrang dal people have no respect for women, it was very evident in the mangalore pub incident when they thrashed women for drinking. Their views will take us back to the dark ages. Only thing they can talk about is pubs, drugs and immoral activities. They are just there to take political mileage. The culprits were not part of our university they were some narrow minded locals who were afraid of the freedom, respect and power women in out town have. A progressive town like manipal needs no moral policing from narrow minded pea brains. Go home bajrang dal you are not welcome in manipal, we can solve our own problems.

I think Bangalore police or the Private Companies (Security wing) with whom the Banks have an arrangement are not taking enough measure to ensure the safety of the ATM’s in spite of an earlier incident.

One more ATM machine was robbed yesterday in Anekal, Bangalore. Breaking ATM machines and taking away cash is very common in India. Our government should take some initiative to recruit them, train them well and place them in the frontier or Naxalite hit areas. Sure what government could not do for the last many years, they would do in perfect way. Strong guys physically morally (policing).
As many have raised their feelings and doubts as to the culprits may be moving among them on the pretext of supporting the victim…? Nothing can be ruled out. Bad guys know better ways to manipulate, than the police think.

To solve this case they need intelligent and worthy law makers not uneducated law breakers.

Infact BD/VHP muscle men can prove their worth if sent to save people in the north.

Bhajaranga Dal growth is mainly beause Hindu rights are not protected anywhere in the world. Even the Nepal, the only Hindu country is also changed its status from last 5 years. Hindus are without a country today is very sad. And Bhajaranga Dal is making use of the insecurity feeling of Hindus. My request to non-hindus is do not create insecure feeling in Hindus and eradicate Bhajaranga Dal type organization.

Bajrang Dal is a group of paid goons, I always doubt their credibility , their leader Sharan is a paid goon if you pay him to threaten someone he will do it without any fear.
Why these thugs supported attacks on Girls in Home Stay and Amenesia pub? Why manhandle females in the name of moral policing and now for political mileage acting like the custodians of the culture. Many of them are wearing jeans so which culture is that? Why don’t they wear lungi?

Why they didn’t protest against rave party organized by Raghupati Bhat? Why not protest against unsolved murder case of Padmapriya & Sowjanya? Remember these thugs were protesting against the disappearance of Hindu girls but when they learned it was Mohana they just mellowed because he is a Hindu.

Did they protest when a child was sacrificed by a priest to appease goddess? If they have read the books of their master Golmaalkar he wrote that women has to be maimed and they are subservient to men, even he went further and advised his followers that snatch the properties of females as they are not allowed to have the property rights. Why they didn’t protest against his book and demand to ban it?

This clearly shows the narrow mentality & laxity on part of new Govt towards this issue. They are only concentrated on introducing cheap liquor & dance bar licences. Looks like Feku has also thrown them out of Gujarat as Feku and his PR team are trying their best to have a clean and 'SICK-ULAR' image for Feku (putting on sheep's clothing) to try and woo the minorities as they think that they are only the smart ones around and the minorities will not be able to see through their 'HYPOCRISY' !!!

iv. Rapists appears to be least

Nothing could be achieved by Udupi bandh, already Indian currency rate is gone under water. I think police should just charge these kind of protests like they did to Christians when they were protesting against church attacks. these guys are just time pass jacks.

Dear BD/VHP workers and followers, expecting arrests within 24 hours is not an easy task. I have mentioned this before as police are clueless and turned out to be a complicated case. Do not expect the matter to be resolved in 24 hours. It is not like going for hunting for a wild pig. Instead give your support to the police to trace these culprits.

It is foolish to say that Mangalorean culture is spoiled by the pubs. It looks like you guys are jealous for people going to pubs as you only can afford to go to GADANGS.

Last advice, just leave the task to the police and let them do their part of the home work.

Dear BD..This is not the right time to protest. Our police dept is trying their best. But they are helpless, unfortunately clueless.Main reason behind their failure is lack of experience in handling sensational cases. They are good at guarding VIPS,handling petty cow transportation, matka, gambling cases. This is the first time they are facing real challenge. They are having lot of pressure from Home Minister, because this is his TEST too !! If he fails,it is a matter of big shame to newly elected Congress Govt.Totally, our Manipal police got sandwiched between Home Minister and public pressure. To add salt, your pressure too..So,my humble request you not to give pressure..if possible, pls help them in nabbing rapists..

I am shocked at the ignorance of BD. what does youngsters or students going to pubs have anything to do with this issue?. The crime was committed by a local rickshaw driver. and again a youngster was a "victim" in this case.

In the name of moral policing, these BD guys will go to pubs and beat up young guys and girls, where as the real people that deserve this treatment are the local people who try to take advantage these youngsters.

BD should be all about protecting women, but all they do is assault women and youngsters.

what BD should do here is use their resources to help the police catch the culprit. i'm sure BD has a "useless" guy from every neighborhood in Udupi, maybe this way these guys could do something useful for the society.

BD should work with the police not against the law.

i feel something fishy in this case in this rape case BD/bjp/vhp/ramasene is involved to just create the bad name for congress rule city

just imagine this case has been happened almost one week back and we are getting all different statement even from police dept.

Manipal is not so big city,so that police cannot trace these culprits..

Investigation is going on and the police have announced 2 3 lakhs as award for any informers. Further, the police is systematically doing their home-work and leading on the right track.
What these anti-social foot soldiers of Bajrang Dal are trying to prove? They are planning to take the law into their hand with the excuse of Manipal incident but the society will not accept it. These rouges should be dealt with an iron fist.
    Jai Hind!

Who knows...The culprits might be in this procession itself protesting against the rape incident. If they find the Police department to be ineffective, then why can't BD and VHP use their sources to find out the rapists. Their threat of moral policing needs to be nipped in the bud itself...

Bajarangis...where were you guys when there were several rape and murders during BJP regime particularly, in Belthangdy,Bantwal and surroundings .On the other hand if you guys would like to co operate officials in nabbing monsters(Manipal incident)that would bring more accolades for your org in twin districts.Do not fish in the muddied water. We, citizens are pained by the incident and in fact such culture is not ours(Mangaloreans)I feel other state's criminals could have been involved as we are witnessing so many criminal activities done by them in and around Twin districts in particular.

    Mr. Ismail,

When Padma Priya, wife of Mr. Raghupati Bhat, Udupi was kidnapped and Murdered, these people didn't demand then H.M. resignation!
Why, were they supporting? was she their enemy?
All sorts of crimes should be condemned but protesters should
have their own credibility to do moral policing?
What all didn't happen in previous regime?
Were these groups awake? They are exposing themselves now!

Dear BD & VHP, Everyone is worried about this case and Police department is there to handle. and knows how to catch the rapist. and deadline won't work here, as victim is not in the position to give all details. And please help to rescue operation in Uttarakhand and you will be blessed... instead of moral policing...

During the Pub attack & Home stay attack these BD Guys were the culprits and they saviour BJP Govt safe guarding them and supporting them for moral policing.

We all know that the rape and assualt on women is not acceptable and condemnable, and for sure some hidden hands are active in this case.

But for sure moral policing is not a solution to stop all this.

if the people are enjoying in Pubs, why these BD guys should have jelous on them.? if it is not Indian culture why you are wearing Jeans / Formal pants instead of Lungi.?

last week silent MP Mr. Kateel gave a deadline and gone for sleep again...not these BD guys came up with one more deadline.

Let us wait and see what happens after the deadline.!

Akshaya Gokhale spoke very well. Her speech was like a mirror to the present day scenario in which girls have to live under fear. We would render whole hearted support to any political/non-political outfit that come in support of the rape victim of manipal or anywhere in our country. Though we have an efficient police force here, they are forced to work under political pressure. Given a free hand to our police t would just take them minutes to nab the culprits.

Why this fellow is talking in Manipal?? If such people are allowed, they will create more harm than good! let them help police in ongoing investigations so that rapists are cought and punished instead of giving deadline on isolated cases! Police and society does not need BD's!! Look at their faces!! Are they looking any good for peaceful society?? They are talking as if DK is safe under their talibani type of goondagiri!!
