Bangalore, Jun 27: The State Cabinet, which met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Chair on Thursday, decided to convene the budget session of the Karnataka Legislature from July 12.

The session, which will begin with Siddaramaiah presenting the Congress government’s first budget for the year 2013-14 in the place of the present presented by the previous BJP chief minister Jagadish Shettar in February, would continue till the end of July.

Briefing reporters on the decisions taken by the State Cabinet, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said the Cabinet decided to abolish the Karnataka Health System Commission (KHSC), which was specially constituted by the D V Sadananda Gowda ministry to accommodate the former Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University.

The Sadananda Gowda ministry had appointed Prabhu Dev as the chairman of the KHSC for a term of three years or for a tenure as decided by the State Government in September last year.

The Cabinet, headed by Sadananda Gowda, approved creation of the Commission to suggest ways and means to improve medical education, promote healthcare research and integration of Indian system of medicine with modern medicine.

Prabhu Dev had resigned his post as the Vice Chancellor of the Bangalore University to take up the new assignment.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Siddaramaiah decided to wind up the Commission as it was duplication of the work in the Health Department.

Jayachandra said the Business Advisory Committee of the Legislature would take a final decision on the number of days the session to be conducted, he said.

The Chief Minister, who is also holding the finance portfolio, would present the State budget during the session and the date has not been finalized, he said even though Siddaramaiah has already indicated on more than one occasion that the budget will be presented on July 12.

Engineering Seat to Rakshita

The Cabinet has decided to provide a seat in engineering college to Rakshita, who was injured in the Malleswaram blast in May last.

The State Governemnt will provide compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the girl towards medical treatment.

The Government would offer a seat in engineering college to the other injured girl, Leesha, if she cleared the entrance test next year, the Minister said.

A decision was taken to dismiss from the service Manohar T D Kabber, assistant director in the Animal Husbandry Department at Savadatti in Belgaum district. He was trapped by the Karnataka Lokayukta.

It was decided to cut 50 per cent salary of Group ‘D’ employee in the Health Department, A Deve Gowda, and dismiss Shekar, doctor in the Health Department, from the service. Both were trapped by the Lokayukta.
