Bangalore: DC takes on minister Tangadagi, cancels land registration of his brother

Bangalore, Jun 29: Minister for minor irrigation, Shivaraj Tangadagi, who had tried his best to transfer Koppal district deputy commissioner (DC), Tulasi Maddineni, has succeeded in his efforts. Although the aim of his efforts was stated to be to save his younger brother from a land scam, he lost in this effort, as the DC, just before her transfer, cancelled the land registration made in his favour.

Nagaraj Tangadagi, younger brother of the minister, has been building a huge bungalow in agricultural land in Karatagi in Gangavati taluk of the district. A person named G Ram Mohan had complained to the DC, alleging that Nagaraj Tangadagi had created fake records in 2008 to get 21 guntas of land under survey No. 322/1/2 standing in his name transferred to the latter. After the DC passed orders on December 6, 2012, Nagaraj Tangadagi approached the high court. The high court, which initially stayed the operation of the DC’s order, instructed Tangadagi later, asking him to get the dispute resolved at the district magistrate’s court.

Sensing that the orders the DC was expected to pass may be detrimental to his brother’s interests,  Shivaraj Tangadagi reportedly brought pressure at the government level to transfer the DC. Finally he succeeded in transferring her on Thursday. But, before her transfer, Maddineni upheld the order dated June 10, 2009 of the deputy director in the department of land records, and ordered a departmental inquiry into how the records were altered in the tahsil office at Gangavathi.

The minister however stood ground, saying that he got the DC transferred as his brother was the rightful and legal owner of the land in question. He added that the order of the DC would be challenged in the high court. He maintained that the DC was transferred in the ordinary course, as she had completed over two years of service in the distict.
 
Tulasi Maddineni, who is awaiting the next place of posting,  concurred that she had received call from the minister in the matter. She said she had passed the order after verifying all the relevant records. However, the DC has maintained an office diary, in which she has recorded the details of calls received by her from various persons relating to the said case.
