Udupi, Jan 17: As the residents of the city and devotees are getting ready for a sleepless night on the eve of 'paryaya' on Wednesday January 18, the district administration, with the help of the police force is all set to keep a strong vigilant eye on the entire celebration  The city is already painted with lights and devotees are flocking in lacs to witness the paryaya.  The religious rites preceding the paryaya start in the midnight of Tuesday January 17.  From then all the pujas, rites and rituals go on in the presence of the devotees.  This means that the city will not sleep on January 17 night. 

However, this year the paryaya has become more special with the tight police security.  As the shadows of terrorism are looming large over the state, the administration has arranged tight security for the paryaya.  Though 4 days of police security is provided for every paryaya, this year the police are on duty from January 11 itself. 

While the Udupi town police are on a round-the-clock duty, this year additional police forces have also been summoned from other districts.  More than 600 police personnel from Chikmagalur, Karwar and neighbouring Dakshina Kannada districts have reached the town.  The sniffer dog squad is alert in the Udupi Ashtha Math area. 

Every lodge and hotel in the city is inspected keenly and the arrival and residing of strangers in the lodges is taken into notice.

Police are also out with the metal detectors at all 5 roads leading to the Ashtha Math.  While in the past metal detectors used to find a place only at the entrance door of the temple, this year they have been installed at Kanakadas Road, Badagupet, Tenkupet, near Rajangana and near the Sode Math.

If anything or anyone suspectable is found, the people are asked to contact police on 2534499.  As usual a special police outpost has been set up in front of the Kanaka Gopura.
